My point is Chechnya represents the very argument Putin is using to justify actions in Ukraine. Those actions, and the double standard it creates, demonstrates Putin's mindset towards "non-ethnic Russians".

For Putin to justify 2 wars in Chechnya, whose demographics puts Crimea's to shame when it comes to citizens (95% Chechen and about 2% Russian), while trying to justify his position in Ukraine using the very argument he denied to Chechnya is a problem.

It does not matter what the region looks like now or 10 years from now. He invaded a region who is not ethnically Russian and who have a separate identity.

Crimea / South / East Ukraine = ethnic Russians = justification to "liberate"
Chechnya = ethnic Chechens = bad = invasion and occupation.

Its the principle.

Of course it maters what it looks like 10 years after. It is peaceful and prosperous place.

One of the men injured in the assault against the Mariupol National Guard Base seems to have disappeared from the hospital:

Its possible their are since we had this argument when Russia invaded Ukraine and occupied Crimea. Putin flat out admitted Russians forces were involved in Crimea. Low and behold those same style uniforms and equipment, not to mention the playbook on occupation, are in fact present in Ukraine.

Also Russia approved of the use of OSCE monitors. If you are going to agree to that stipulation, OSCE monitors, then you cant reject the results out of hand simply because they don't support Russian claims.

When asked if he is from Donetsk, he answers: “Of course not, I am a resident of the city of Efremov of Tula oblast” (Tula is a Russian province). When asked what he is doing in Donetsk, he answers: “I am helping a brotherly nation to defend its rights.”

2 things that stand out from the video, seeing as how I don't have the least bit of the knowledge of Russian language:

1) for someone that has been in an alleged fire-fight and later fled the scene accros fields and most likely away from main roads near Slavyansk, trying to escape capture, his clothes are incredibly clean and look kinda freshly ironed.
2) the clothes he is sporting seem very normal, compared to how Right Sector nationalists/neo-nazis are generally presented in Russian media.

Somewhat skeptical about this news.

Are there further data on what those "German" weapons were, H&K's, SIG's, or just that they were "German" weapons ?

LE: from the pictures found online from the separatists that "repelled" the neo-nazi attack, the weapons looked like an AK and a PKM, so not quite German.
