The details: 58% of Crimea is ethnically Russian and a lot of demonstrations of Russians in Ukraine have opposed the new Ukrainian government.

Russia has vast investment in the Ukraine, including essential pipelines of oil and gas to many other areas including the EU.

Russia has leases of many naval bases in Crimea, the Black sea ports, another investment.

Russia has long and strong links to Ukraine, historically and currently.

Russia has made deals with Ukraine and neighbouring areas, including Iran.

Russia controls the oil and gas supplies to many places including the EU via Ukraine.

Russia has recently been holding meeting regarding Iranian trade.

The EU and US are none please about Russia's talks with these nations as it excludes them.

Strategically the Ukraine is essential for oil and gas supply, the gateway to Russia and the Gateway to other nations that the EU and US doesn't have good links to currently as well as being militarily strategic.

In a possible impending ice age, the supply of oil and gas is essential, even now before any ice age.

Russia has the right to defend it's assets and military areas in the Ukraine, any other nation would were they in a similar position.

The US should back off, it hasn't a say in the Ukraine. Just because US is UScentric doesn't mean anywhere else is, because everywhere else isn't.

Oil companies starting wars backed by spineless governments is far from ethical, especially under the guise of ethnicity and internal politics.

The Russia foreign ministry admitted the country moved their troops into Ukraine's troubled Crimea peninsula. The autonomous republic within Ukraine identifies as Russian and has been fighting back since parliament ousted Viktor Yanukovych.

The Telegraph reports:
"The Ukrainian side was also passed a note regarding the movement of armoured vehicles of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, which is happening in full accordance with the foundation Russian-Ukrainian agreement on the Black Sea Fleet,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Friday afternoon.
In the same note the Russian foreign ministry said it had declined a Ukrainian request for “bilateral consultations” on events in Crimea because they are “the result of recent internal political processes in Ukraine.”
Moscow said it is for security reasons, but Ukraine warned them they must conform to previous agreements between the countries.

Late Thursday night, gunmen seized the Crimea airport, and witnesses said they wore the exact same gear as the men who took over government buildings in Simferopol earlier in the day. On Friday, 20 men wearing Russia's Black Sea Fleet uniforms surrounded the Ukrainian border guard post in Sevastopol. One man told journalists they were there to prevent a riot similar to that in Kiev.

Crimea's parliament dissolved their government and elected a pro-Russia chairman until they vote on May 25, if they want to remain the autonomous republic in Ukraine. That is the same day Ukraine holds their presidential elections. Over 58% of Crimea's residents are ethnic Russians, and Russia leases many Navy ports in the peninsula.

Like they say,

Ever see the movie "War Games"?

In that kind of war, no one wins, no one survives.

Initially 80% of CPSU was jewish .Russian revolution was instigated by jews ,especially Trotsky ,Schiff family and Rockefeller Dynasty to destroy the Baku oil industry and deindustralize Russian empire. Stalin restored Russian industries, did the great purges on jewish elites who controlled USSR for the elites and Russified Russia again. Ultimately restored the Russian orthodox Church and Cossacks too.

Same is the pattern around Putin, hence he is 'dictator' .But then I will not deny that Stalin was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths of Chechens,Crimean tatars, mennonite german kulaks in deportations and this is documented in archives and that Stalin was paranoid, cruel and a big womanizer was responsible for 800,000 deaths. But the holodomers and allegations ,well they are just crock.Consider the fact that all the purported photos of holodomer are from the Volga famine of 1920-23 which was a crime of Trotsky on Mennonites and Cossacks.Trotsky killed 12 million Russians and not a peep about it.

Compare Lenin/Trotsky with Yeltsin and Stalin with Putin and compare the coverage of the western mass media. You will get the point.

Ukraine’s Navy flagship, the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, has reportedly refused to follow orders from Kiev, and come over to Russia’s side and is returning home after taking part in NATO operation in the Gulf of Aden flying the Russian naval flag.

There has been conflicting information on where exactly the vessel is, but a Russian senator has confirmed to Izvestia daily that the frigate defected to the Russian side.

“Ukraine’s Navy flagship the Hetman Sahaidachny has come over to our side today. It has hung out the St Andrew’s flag,” Senator Igor Morozov, a member of the committee on the international affairs, told Izvestia daily.

He said the flagship is on its way back to the Black Sea after drills in the Mediterranean. “The crew has fulfilled the order by the chief commander of Ukraine’s armed forces Viktor Yanukovich,” he added.

The move comes after the Navy command resigned Friday. Self-appointed President Aleksandr Turchinov made Rear Admiral Denis Berezovsky the new Navy Chief, a statement published on the President’s website Saturday said.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Prime Minister Ukraine’s self-imposed government, had earlier asked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan not to let the frigate through the Bosporus strait, according to the Kiev Times. The ship captain and the head of Ukraine’s contingent in the operation, Rear Admiral Andrey Tarasov disobeyed orders from Kiev.

The Hetman Sahaidachny returns to Sevastopol, Crimea after taking part in a joint counter-piracy operation with NATO and the EU off the Horn of Africa, reported UNN on Friday, citing Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. On February 26, after crossing the Suez Canal, the ship entered the Mediterranean Sea and was expected to be in Sevastopol in early March.

What does that mean? Is there a particular gene that makes one Russian rather than Polish or Latvian? How does that work, exactly.

Its not fact, but a way to confuse the situation in Crimea in order to justify Russian aggression. Like how Russia twisted the events in order to invade Ukraine. It was done under the guise of protecting ethnic Russians from Kiev.

Putin stated Russia has a right to interfere when Russian interests are at stake. To me that opens the door for the west to make the same argument.

Crimea population is about 2 million. The more of those people who are classified as "Russian" lends to justification for Russia.

Perhaps genetically, however this is yet to be ascertained. Do you have any source, proof or theory that supports your statement?

The stat of 58% of Crimea population being ethnically Russian is being reported in many sources as this is the stat from the 2001 census, although it is a personal choice ie. the ethnic identity to which those identify rather than genetic or cultural heritage ethnicity.

en.wikipedia.org...

According to the 2001 Ukrainian population census 58% of the population of Crimea are ethnic Russians and 24% are ethnic Ukrainians.

I found this in a recent MSM article and it tends to show the deep nature of the division inside the Ukraine. At least in politics. Even voting is a split issue down the same East/West lines.

A few hours after Putin was cleared by parliament to use military force on Ukrainian soil, Interfax news agency reported that two Russian anti-submarine warships have appeared off the coast of the Crimea region, violating an agreement on Moscow's lease of a naval base. The report quoted a Ukrainian military source who said that two vessels, part of Russia's Baltic Fleet, had been sighted in a bay at Sevastopol, where Russia's Black Sea Fleet has a base.

Ironic... The KGB is once again overseeing the collapse of Russia.

You are correct, we are seeing the collapse of Russia as a nation................only that rebirth of USSR is also taking place.

Like History has shown many times before, Russia does not collapse, it reforms into an entity with bigger chunks of land and resources.

In the meantime , be prepared for Cold War II and long awaited BANKUPTCY in the west.

Crimea is semi autonomous and self defined as 58% Russian ethnicity, the Crimean leader ASKED for Russian assistance.

The whole thing started because the Ukrainian president didn't agree to an EU deal and chose Russian support, prompting protests from those wanting an EU deal.

The Ukraine is politically split between supporters of the EU and supporters of Russia, many still define themselves as ethnically Russian and only 'given away' by Khrushchev as part of a deal that they didn't want.

The EU then imposed sanctions on Ukraine due to violence against protesters.

Ukraine is in debt to Russia and there were agreements made that includes ties to Russia. The EU deal might have ruined such ties, economic aid from Russia as well as jeopardizing the favourable deals. Reneging such deals and taking an EU / US /NATO deal could also have caused Russia limiting Oil and gas supply to Ukraine and to other places via Ukraine. Russia provides a third of EU gas and 12% of world oil.

www.marketoracle.co.uk...

www.aim.org...

The protests were a direct response to Yanukovich’s decision to pull out of a trade pact with the European Union last year, after which the U.S. and E.U. criticized Russia for interfering in Ukrainian affairs. Russia blasted the U.S. and E.U. for meddling in Ukraine’s politics for supporting the protesters.

Crimea leader calls for Russian help to restore calm in the semi-autonomous region
There are indications that the crisis in Ukraine’s southern Crimea region is escalating. The new premier of the region has said that armed men guarding key buildings are from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.

Aksyonov, the head of the main pro-Russian party in the southern Ukrainian region, then went on to appeal to Moscow for support.

"Understanding my responsibility for the life and security of citizens, I appeal to the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, for assistance in guaranteeing peace and calmness on the territory of the autonomous republic of Crimea," he said.
Aksyonov's appeal came amid heightened tensions on the peninsula, a day after heavily armed troops wearing uniforms without military insignias took control of two key airports in the region. They also took up positions around government buildings in the main city of Simferopol.

Later on Saturday, Aksyonov told the Interfax news agency that the troops in question were members of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Shortly afterwards, the RIA news agency cited the Fleet’s press service, which said it had agreed with the Crimean authorities to jointly guard key buildings.

How you figure that one out?

You think after a war with Russia the USA and EU will come out smelling of roses? And in one piece?
