Ok, i didn't know where to put this so move if need be mods.

Anyway last night i was watching the tube and all of the sudden i started going def and blind at the same time. It lasted for about 3 min. I was so frickin scared i freaked out. Does anybody know what could have caused this. This has never happened to me before. I'm fine now.

Edit to add: I did make a doctor appointment, just thought id throw that in there because i know somebody will say it.

Possibly a transient ishemic attack, a mini stroke, possibly a tumor, possibly a detached(ing) retina.

Don't discount age at all for any of the above possibilities, and you should see a doctor urgently.

Going deaf and blind, even for a few minutes, is not normal.

If you are under an extreme amount of pshychological stress, it could be hysteria, but either way, go see someone.

Now, if your vision kind of dulled, and your hearing seemed to go "far away", but you didn't lose both completely, it could be blood sugar or blood pressure related, especially if you had been sitting a while and stood up suddenly. Could even hve been whats known as a complicated migraine, which can mimic a stroke.

The realm of possibilities is rather large, and since you didn't go into a lot of detail on the exactness of the symptoms, all anyone can offer is opinions.

Stay safe.

wow man thats terrible to hear. my worst fear is going blind. kind of hard for an artist to work that way, but i have heard of it happening before.

I would definitely want to know what the doc has to say about it.

i hope you will be ok.

it could be a mini coma(?) maybe a seizure? you could have gone into and thought you were just chilling in the dark, but really you are seizing?

could be poor circulation to your brain, possible embolism?

i really have no clue, so please dont get freaked out from anything im saying.

i am really curious about this, but i will give you a prognosis worthy of ats...

aliens did it with brainwave binurals and they scanned every memory youve ever had, and are now plotting a way to trick you into thinking your grandma and elvis are going to arrive and take you to a special place you knew when you were a child, BUT WATCHOUT! because its actually a lab where they get you to do awful things.

beware of snowcones.

that sounds very frightening.

Just go to your doc appointment and don't panic yet. Our bodies can produce strange symptoms but the cause is not always worst case scenario.
By what you describing, if you mean it was a total blindness and deafness, I'm thinking it's something neurological and not related to the eyes or ears themselfs.
Was it 'total'? Or did it became black in front of your eyes with a 'numb' feeling/buzzing in your ears? Because that is something different.

My hearing went bye bye completely, and i didnt even get up i was just lying there watching tv, my vision went out just like when you get up fast though. I pretty sure i didnt have low blood sugar i eat pretty well. The docs dont seem to much in a hurry to get me in either as my appt. is tomorrow.

Edit to add: i do have chronic migraine that im on medication for though.

Explanation: Maybe your sinuses were adjusting to a local sudden and large change in pressure! I have found myself having red outs [my eyes fully open but everything goes a coppery red and it looks like a web of hexagonal cells vibrating and flowing and at same time] just before I'm forced to uncontrollably YAWN and my throat gets all tight, especially around the back of my jaw and just behind my ears and this of course severely dulls and blunts the outside ambient sounds! Usually this is accompanied by extreme lightheadedness and hot and cold flushes and or pins and needles after the event. It usually lasts about 30 to 60 seconds but that can feel like ages when it occurs the 1st few times.

Were you tired, in stuffy environment, slumped in chair or couch etc, just finishing a smoke, in process of stitting down or standing up, inebriated/intoxiacated, eating or just finished eating, shower/bathing or had just finished hot shower/bath, combo? There are many many extenuating circumstances that may have exascerbated the under lying medical condition or just your natural state of being into a fully fledged reaction!

Personal Disclosure: I would get it checked out by a trusted medical consultant/GP ASAP! Especially if its your 1st occurence ever..Could be blood pressure or heart related and I bring to your attention strokes and aneurysm or conversly it could be neurological such as tumour etc..Not trying to scare you but SERIOUSLY get it checked out OK! I hope it was just a one off occurence and that you suffer no more episodes of loss of two vital senses!

It will go away if you stop touching yourself.

Just kidding. I have had similar experiences and it really sounds like blood pressure problems. The doctor will probably do what the pharmaceutical industry pays him/her to do and prescribe blood pressure meds and perhaps some cholesterol meds for added profit. It's ok to start on these, but I took control of my blood pressure with excercise and high dose vitamin c just like Linus Pauling did (he lived into his 90's) and I no longer use blood pressure/cholesterol meds but I am fine. I have recently added vitamin d liquigels - but that's another story.

I had a similar experience once and I too think it was a sudden change in my blood pressure that caused it. I was in public and it took about everything I had not to freak out, because I didn't even know what I was facing or staring at anymore. After a few seconds of this I really started to worry, and focused on trying to bring my vision back, and then it came back. I must have looked like a deer in headlights just standing there staring.
