When did the government realised that a subset of these over the counter cold medicines didn't work and after hundreds of millions of Americans have consumed them over the past decade spending large sums of money buying them.

It's not like there is a defect and they have been recalled for this reason but it's more like it was well known for long time they didn't work in the first place. But what the hell, let's do business first and then see where it takes us.

There was a whole thread on this here recently, however the gist on there was that they withold these medications because they do work.
Too well.
Especially for colds and flus.
Can't have that, because you must fear the above and need the gene therapy injection only.

Pharma would never stop any money maker unless it hinders an even bigger one from being used.

Some over the counter medicines for cold that they don't work. It was known for long they didn't work but what's the problem?! Just buy them, do your part and support the local industries and pharma. Be a good patriot...

I can testify to that!

I was pissed a while back when I had a slight cold. Been buying
Nyquil for that crap my whole life cause it always kicked ass. Now
they changed the name to Z-quil and that crap couldn't kick the sh1t
loose from a baby duck. Still pisses me off but ya true story. Ny-quil
no where to be found and somebody needs a solid beat down.

I never but anything for cold and flu.
There is nothing you can do with viruses. Once you're infected that's it.Maybe you can alleviate some of your symptoms.

Pharma wants many many clients over a long period of time and the best way to push their medicines is through advertising of fear and despair.

Umm Hello! Did you read my post? Did you get how it said NyQuil isn't
available anymore having been replaced by Z-quil. Which is in fact a
watered down version of what used to kick ass. You know kinda in
correlation with what the OP was saying about selling people cold
medicines that don't work. Did you ever use Ny-quil? I'm sure you didn't
so you have no idea. I don't need to read labels to know they took
something off the GD shelf that worked.

The FDA doesn't properly evaluate medicines. It has been that way for quite a few years now. The Pharma companies get to choose the placebo they use to identify if a med works, some placebos can cause an opposite effect to occur, so the placebo can improperly make the medicine look better than it really is. This is old policy, it has been going on for over forty years from my studies. They also compare their new meds against negative effects of other meds, which they exploit the positive of sometimes and downplay new side effects...again not new practice.
