Pakistan has recently committed to selling Nuclear Technology to Nigeria. This is a slap in the face to the U.S. Government and its policy of non-proliferation of nuclear secrets.

oneworld.net

"Speaking at the opening of the discussions, the Pakistani chairman of joint chiefs of staff ... said that his country is working out the dynamics of how they can assist Nigeria's armed forces to strengthen its military capability and to acquire nuclear power," the Nigerian press release said. Neither the Pakistani nor the Nigerian governments clarified what Gen Khan had in mind.

Pakistan is an ally whose contribution to the war on terror has come at great cost to U.S. foreign policy. While their cooperation is essential to the stability and feasibility of the operations in Afghanistan they have proven to be a treacherous ally. At some point in their cooperation in Afghanistan will not be worth the political capital it is taking to maintain that relationship. If Pakistan follows through with its plans to share military and possibly nuclear secrets with Nigeria it could prove catastrophic for Africa. Whatever progress has been made with Libya will be lost in a new and devastating arms race in Africa. We would effectively be trading stability in Afghanistan for chaos in Africa. That is a poor trade by any measure. Pakistan must be severely warned not to pursue this tract any further or risk U.S. and possibly U.N. (impotent as they are) sanctions. To fail to take a hard line in the face of this rebellion will leave the world a much more dangerous place.

Nukes in African banana republics would take a lot of pressure and world attention off the middle east. Smart move on the part of Pakistan, especially since they have the U.S. over a barrel in Afghanistan.

THis sounds to me like another arab bluff. They use this tactic to get concessions out of the U.S. They try to rile us up in order to extort more aid out of us just like NOrth Korea. Unlike North Korea however we have a vested interest in maintaining a relationship with these bozos. I agree with Johannmon we need to take a hard line with them bases and support or no bases and support

Taking a hard line at this point will only make things worse not better. We are in bed with a skunk and we are just going to have to put up with a little stink now.

I have a question to add to this discussion board on this article. where would a little rinky dink country like Nigeria come up with the 100s of millions of dollars neccessary to buy or build nuclear technology or would they simply be a front for other interested parties?

Small countries are spending wads for the nuclear prize.
And Pakistan has been selling to everybody with money or something in exchange they might need.
