You may not know it but there is a whole other side of the Internet that exists where users are able to surf anonymously. Known by some as the “deep web,” it’s a network primarily used to peddle illegal drugs and child pornography but over the weekend, nearly half of the sites on the Tor (short for “the onion router”) network went dark.

Nearly half of the 'deep web' goes dark following child porn bust

I wonder which alphabet agency is responsible for this action?

I mean if it helps stop kiddie porn then im all for it, all through i strongly suspect there will be some ulterior motives involved.

I'm all for anything that stops kiddie fiddling from taking place!

Just pointing out that this suspect network aka Silkroad 2.0 has only been up and running for around a week or so and it has already been implicated regarding child pornography and has had action taken against it. That's rather fast don't you think?

Ether the alphabet agencies are finally doing their job in the correct fashion or there could quite possibly be some other reason considering that the first iteration of said network was around for some time, child pornograph alligations and all.

What's NOT GOOD is taking away people's right to anonymity by claiming child pornography is involved. And its an "old chestnut" that has been used on numerous occasions by TPTB, throughout recorded history to colour and sway opinions.

I don't use the network myself but I understand people's need and wish for anonymity, especially these days considering our freedom is being slowly removed on a daily basis.

I actually have to agree with both sides of the issue here... Anyone who victimizes children should be staked out on a fire ant mound, covered in honey, and left to mother earth imho.

That said I do worry about tptb might use a "bust" like this ones for "other" motives. For once in response to a piece of news on ATS I have say that I am torn.

I guess its because I just don't trust those in power to do the right thing, or tell the truth. They have lost all credibility with me.

I have often thought that this could be the best way to legally ' off ' someone , set them up as they have viewed or recorded child porn and leave the rest up to vigilante's

Kiddie porn is a bad thing and I wished it never happened, but the other bad thing is that it legitimises invasion of privacy. It's used as a means to evade privacy laws or to erode them.
Thanks a lot you diddlers!

What I also have a problem with is something I have no problem with, marijuana, which bad laws legitimise invading peoples homes and stealing freedom.

Whatever your views they will use whatever excuse to snoop and gather information.

Perhaps the deep web should do what a lot of websites do, use the users input to report illegal and immoral activity and have it removed. Otherwise there is no moral or ethical need for a secret internet, but of course if it is used to expose bad government and secrets we should know, I am all for it.
But of course, they don't like that, so they rally everyone behind the cloak of morality, they are not after just kiddie porn.

That's when I have a problem with this crap (aside from the KP)

Are you suggesting that it is good to take down the infrastructure that these scumbags use? Or that it is good that they are busted?

I ask, because if it's the latter, then I agree 100%.

but if it's the former, then you're on the internet. Lots of perverts on the internet. By your definition, if the former is the case, then you support the same things.

The internet. You mean the internet.

Lets shoot anyone caught on a road. I hear those pedos use cars. Anyone who supports cars is a pervert and deserves a bullet in the face.

"Are you suggesting that it is good to take down the infrastructure that these scumbags use? Or that it is good that they are busted?"

I'm suggesting that anonymity should be freely attainable by people or persons that desire such.

"I ask, because if it's the latter, then I agree 100%."

Paedophiles should be strung up by the chestnuts then removed from our gene pool.

"but if it's the former, then you're on the internet. Lots of perverts on the internet. By your definition, if the former is the case, then you support the same things."

Well it's not the former so let's not go down that road, silk or otherwise!
LoL

And the only thing I support pertaining to this thread is freedom of speech and anonymity if so desired!

Im not an expert on this issue. But id like to know what fellow ATS'ers think. Especially after the FRANKLIN COVERUP and DETROUX AFFAIR investigations drew nought. I agree there are sickos and pedos haunting the net. But the legalized pedos are still running countries and businessess.

Theres an online campaign going on right now against child porn/pedophilia by AVAAZ. Critics are calling it another KONY 2012 scheme". UK political activist Lowkey stated "This “KONY 2012″ campaign is asking for MORE US troops to be sent into Africa. Look up AFRICOM and understand what this is part of. Your consent is being manufactured. Wake up!“

wrongkindofgreen.org... -advisors-to-uganda

Avaaz requests everyone to sign a petition:
avaaz.org...

Avaaz also has a youtube channel:
www.youtube.com...

www.terredeshommes.org...

It seems weird that suddenly the world ngos would be on a mission to end child porn on the web.

What about the us/uk/middle east/european child sex slavery rings and snuff film networks that are participated by top political/royal/businessess till today?

Is there a conspiracy to divert the FRANKLIN COVERUPS AND DETROUX AFFAIR revelations?

What do you think fellow ATS'ers?

I think I've seen it happen...so if I mention the case, would it set off flags? I'm not gonna risk it.

If kiddie porn was the real reason then I am all for it. Because kiddie porn is the worse thing ever. But I have to wonder is kiddie porn was not used as a cover for something else. It is like everything else going on. We will never know.

It is really hard to go to a site on the deep web without someone looking for child porn, snuff, violence, bizarre porn, whatever..

Go to any of the link aggregates and right next to the offers for every illegal substance you think of you will find people selling themselves at young ages or people exploiting other folks of a very young age. Go to any of the forums..whatever you can find as active chances are their is something horrible on it or linked off it.

Even the locations on the deep web that are supposed to deal with conspiracies , UFOs, 9/11 , whatever, you will find something related to the items I opened with or people looking for those items.

When I leave there I feel like I need a long hot shower just to get clean but that is sort of to be expected. It's like going to the red light district somewhere and being offended when you see sex, drugs, violence.
