Actions vs words...

Turning your flag upside down does far less than talking to people about the political situation. I bet the majority of people seeing it wouldn't understand the statement anyway. Tie some yellow ribbons on trees to fix everything.

From my experience, talking to people doesn't do much either though. The majority either don't care or blindly follow some political talker paraded in front of them. They are being given too much credit for sense and comprehension.

Seeing as myself and a few others (KawRider9 included) replied in support of Homer's thread here and joined him in this small act of protest, I feel a certain amount of responsibility to move forward with the spirit of this act on my heart. The "shut down" is over *cough*, but my country is still in DIRE DISTRESS and I perceive a real and true danger to my life, the lives of my children and/or my property. As such, I continue to fly my flag upside down, put a spotlight (my porch light) on it at night and bring it in when it rains. I am showing the utmost respect to my flag while I share my concerns with anyone who cares enough to notice and ask as the 2 vets I mentioned in my previous reply did.

The time for permission through silence is over! I sincerely hope there is change made through peaceful actions, but don't count me out should it come to non-peaceful resistance. I am a lover, not a fighter, but don't threaten my children (which is exactly what TPTB are doing) or Momma Bear will come out to "play". I have had enough of sitting around doing not-a-thing while my country goes the way of Rome, so while this is a small step, it is never the less a step in the right direction IMHO!

But IrishCream gave an example, that their flag CAUSED a discussion, with two others, that then agreed with the sentiment. So then? What if they each talked to two more? Then each of them to two more.....

Again, if it gets people talking about what is going on, how is it a bad thing? If it educates 1 person, how is that a bad thing?

To those that are offended, I'm very sorry to upset you, but the times of doing nothing are over! I refuse to sit idle anymore. If this peaceful protest is what it takes to show I care, then so be it.

I love our Country and don't want to see it go the way of the Dodo bird.

The shut down may be over but with all the other problems with ObamaCare and the cuts coming to Food Stamps also noted in this post "Foodstamp Program Shutdown Imminent?" people are not happy with how things are being run.

When I was younger I used to think that the citizens of this nation ran the country and the government just did as the citizens wanted, to bad that isn't true. We live with boiled down options now and everyday that passes more options just fly away in the wind.

Absolutely Kaw, and I'm not alone in my support. I went to the FB link you provided in your OP and read the comments, while there was a larger % who were either "offended" or think it's "just a piece of cloth", there was also a good % who support it and it was obvious that your action got them thinking and talking as well. I also posted a comment there myself in a "camaraderie" show of support.

Side note: you may need to invest in a 2nd landline lmao!

I am so glad people are talking and discussing WHY your flags are hanging upside down!!

Call all the local tv stations and tell them WHY you are and maybe that will get the flags more attention and more and more people will do it.

A peaceful protest against our leaders is a great thing especially if it goes country wide!!!!

Maybe the flag people are on to something.

People put those support the troop stickers on their cars and 10 years later the war in the Middle East is still going. Must have worked.

Hopefully 10 years from now, people will still be talking about the need for change in the direction and leadership of the country.

I have to agree with your post except in one small respect: They(the members of congress) will pass a law making it illegal for US, they of course will get special treatment under the law, just as they do with the forced social security scam, health care options, insider trading (totally legal for a member of congress, by the way) firearms laws (new full-auto colt m4's bought by Tom Ridge, totally illegal for a private citizen since the restriction of possession of new full auto firearms by private citizens in the 1980's) tax evasion, lying under oath and all the other little details in the legal system that only apply to us peons.

IF YOU VOTE FOR ANY INCUMBENT IN 2014 THEN YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. It may not completely solve the problem, but it will SURE AS HELL slow down the train wreck we see happening before our eyes. GET RID of some of the already bought and paid for political whores and ANY ONE associated with them. It is really easy, JUST VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE, preferably someone who has a basic understanding of the Constitution.

( I apologize if I offended any whores by comparing them to politicians. )

Absolutely, positively TRUE!!! I remember learning in school that We The People held the power, that's the entire basis of the very construct of the United States. We left the Monarchy because we wanted to govern ourselves and set in place a list of guidelines for the Democratic form of government... The Constitution!

In one generation, just ONE, children are now being taught that ANY act of defiance towards or against the "reigning" PTB is considered an act of domestic terrorism and will be punished to the fullest extent (courtesy of 9/11, the Patriot Act, et all)! Thomas Jefferson said: "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." and this, which I feel speaks volumes at the moment; "When wrongs are pressed because it is believed they will be borne, resistance becomes morality."

I absolutely love the idea. Occupy main-street while using the American flag hung by good solid citizens . Citizens the that MSM cannot label dropouts, outcast or other people of little standing or morals.

A seed has been planted and may it grow until it cannot be ignored.

I like how so many people are "offended" by this. If we are not in distress then I don't know what the hell you would call it. If those who get offended so frequently spoke up as much about what is going on in DC as often as they did in Mary Lou's backyard our situation might not be quite so dire.

S&F for you. We still (for the time being) have the right to take a stand for wrongs done to us. I hope you don't get harassed too much before all the fuss dies down.

On October 9th, I did something I thought I'd NEVER do in my life. I took my American Flag (I have flown a flag outside every home I've able to do so since getting out of the Army in 1997), and flipped it upside down.

The United States Flag Code Title 4, Chapter 1 clearly states:

§ 8(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

I feel we ARE in extreme danger to life and property, FROM OUR OWN GOVERNMENT.

With our country's $16 trillion national debt, the enactment of Obamacare, projected federal unfunded obligations have increased by $17 trillion, now totaling $82 trillion. Obamacare’s massive Medicaid expansion and new exchange subsidies are largely to blame.

Unfunded liabilities are in excess of $190 TRILLION DOLLARS. Our TOTAL assets of the country, is $93 TRILLION DOLLARS!!!

This is something, as tax payers, WE CANNOT AFFORD!!!

The House Republicans tried to pass each item in the budget, without Obamacare. As a final straw, the House Republicans said they'd include Obamacare, as long as ALL exemptions for the ACA were removed, meaning EVERYONE was to go on it. Senator Harry Reid rejected each and every proposal.

"What is good enough for me, isn't good enough for thee."

The President and the Democrats attitude is "My Way Or The Highway". In other words, NO COMPROMISE.

Obama said in a briefing earlier this week, he'd be willing to listen to the House Republicans, as long as they included Obamacare and raised the debt ceiling. I think the House is smarter then that. IF they were to agree, and abide by the Democrat's wishes, there would be NO DISCUSSION from the other party. It would be a done deal, and the Socialist takeover of our country would be complete.

Federal workers are being furloughed, national parks and memorials are closed and barricaded, Reservists and National Guard members told not to go to drill this month, and benefits are possibly going to be withheld from the disabled and elderly, along with disabled and retired veterans, as well as survivors of veterans.

Just this week, the families of 5 soldiers killed in Afghanistan are being told they wont receive the death benefits from their deceased soldiers. A CHARITY stepped in to assist these families with receiving their benefits. Of course, Obama, AFTER THE FACT, decided to say that these families will be taken care of.
Mr President, AGAIN you dropped the ball!

As a veteran, this made me angry, so I did the only thing I had in my power to do. I turned my flag upside down. I have to let others know we are in danger of losing our country. It is my DUTY to warn my fellow Americans.

I know some people out there will disagree, and state I'm desecrating our Flag; but they couldn't be further from the truth. I love my country, I'm PROUD to be an American, I am proud to have served in her defense, but I don't like the path we are taken.


If you agree with me, and feel this country is in danger, please take your Flag and flip it upside down to help warn others before its too late.
