Congressional default is about to make us proud peers to the Nazis

You know... they really aren't that dissimilar after all, are they? At least the Nazi's were smart enough to incline the seating and elevate the speaker panel to ensure everyone has a proper view of their local tyrant.

Well, it is true after all. Congress is considering following in the footsteps of their real heros. They are STILL contemplating the meaningless implosion of this country known as a default.

What is more? They can make us the first western nation to do that since Hitler's Nazi Germany did it in the early 1930's. And they apparently only did it by accident, crushed by the burden of the treaty of Versailles. Congress, on the other hand, is doing it by choice. That makes us the first people to contemplate economic suicide by default since the 1700s.

I do not recognize these people as my leaders anymore. If Italy can dissolve their entire parliament and elect new officials once every few years, why can't we toss out our grotesquely sub-human patrons of lobbyism?

CNN had a shutdown clock. The shutdown is a dog and pony show. Even those oafs don't dare to have a default clock, the only clock that matters then or now.

Our country is burning. I can say that for certain after I watched John Constantino set himself on fire while saluting the Capitol on the National Mall. There is no mistake about it. People will die by the thousands as a direct consequence of the default. We will slowly lose social programs... first WIC, then foodstamps, and social security, and veteran's benefits, and medicaid, and medicare... the dollar will plunge so far, Boehner's jaw will drop through the center of the earth back out to China (which is fine by them... they get to be the next superpower maybe, if they ever recover from their own self-inflicted real-estate crashes). Commodities will skyrocket in price as oil rates increase as a direct result of a dollar with massively less value due to stunted confidence. Jobs will be lost by the double-digit millions. Lehman brothers will look like spilt milk. Our country does not have the capacity to operate as it is doing now under the burden of $200 oil. Want to try $600 or more? Things will fall apart so fast no one will have any doubt why the police forces are a new paramilitary.

I want to see this topic disappear into obscurity as the house reaches an agreement tomorrow, 2 days before the crash. I see a non-trivial possibility that will not be the case.

I refuse to accept they have the right to inflict this upon us. Anyone with vision can see the utter absurdity of it all. There is zero necessity and no rational reason to support this course. Republicans don't like the ACA law very much... does anyone? I don't threaten to nuke my hometown because I don't like who got elected mayor, and what laws they passed. I hoped a child could see that was a threat only a madman could appreciate. I was wrong.

At this point, the government could default, but then horrified by the carnage that ensues, pay their bills 2 days later again.

I can't think of anything colorful enough to describe this to myself.

I guess the best analogy for that is if you drove a nail through your foot to prove to everyone you were crazy enough to do it, but thought better of hammering it in deeper a few more times, or maybe putting a nail in the other foot for symmetry's sake.

I don't follow it all that close because it seems the closer you should be figuring it all out the further away you become from the truth .Hey its a corrupted system that was made that way so it could be . I like the term the chickens are coming home to roost . Its only the fat cats that will loose the most .I say good on them ...Not sure how it's going to change but I know it's going to .... peace

They really won't. The fat cats won't lose anything. They'll make more.

Let me get this straight, you think that if the House doesn't back down and agree to go into more debt the welfare system will collapse and people will die. But adding more debt to 17 trillion will fix the problem?

You want the Congress dissolved but are angry they are not doing the Status Quo. You think they are Nazis for not wanting to fund a fascist law that FORCES citizens to buy a product from a private company or be taxed or jailed.

I'm sorry but I think you are a little confused about what you want and that is the problem. Too many people are confused, not paying attention and listening to propaganda. And the Nation finds itself right here.

Well your German history is off a bit...it had little to do with Hitler. Germany survived entirely on credit during the Weimar Republic (1924-1929 are the critical years). The collapse began in 31, Hitler had tried a coup in 23 and failed and was sentenced to prison by 32 his support for National Socialism had grown immensely because people were starving the money was in free fall and a loaf of bread cost a wheelbarrow of Marks. My grandfather survived it and came here don't distort facts to make it fit. What you are watching happen is what created Nazi Germany, not Nazi's in action already(well sure some have been active for quit some time).

Hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic

Although the inflation ended with the introduction of the Rentenmark and the Weimar Republic continued for a decade afterwards, hyperinflation is widely believed to have contributed to the Nazi takeover of Germany and Adolf Hitler's rise to power. Adolf Hitler himself in his book, Mein Kampf, makes many references to the German debt and the negative consequences that brought about the inevitability of "national socialism". Some economists, however, point out that Hitler's rise was immediately preceded by the 1931 economic crisis, which, while also being partially triggered by Germany's debt, was, unlike the hyperinflation crisis of 1923, characterized by massive deflation created by a government austerity program.[32] Paul Krugman concurred that the "1923 hyperinflation didn’t bring Hitler to power; it was the Brüning deflation and depression."[33]

This is why you don't let the social network be in the government's tool chest. It becomes a weapon. Every time.

It's our responsibility to take care of our family and community. When the people hand the food and health security of an entire nation over to a government they guarantee that at some point a government will arise which will have the desire to use the "aid" as a "gun".

How many times will humans take the bait?

"We'll take care of it! We love you!"
(couple generations pass)
"They don't agree with our policies. Let's starve them."

Just the *rumor* of using it as a weapon is enough to get most people to comply... much less an actual threat or actual usage.

I'll be happy when ATS gets a doom-porn section.

This is nothing but fear-mongering so that politicians don't have to be fiscally responsible.

Sometimes Status quo is the only sane course of action, at least in the short term. It is status quo not to jump off of bridges, or to impale yourself through the feet.

I have no love for Obamacare. I want to see it repealed (save for a few parts that are decent like forcing companies to accept pre-existing conditions). and it is obviously non-constitutional. I don't think threatening the country with destruction is the way to do that. We can cut tons of spending next year. Cut military research budget in half. Close half of our foreign bases down. Maybe not get into any new wars anytime soon? Maybe not give the NSA enough money it can build Skynet in Utah? We are not in debt because we don't have enough money. We choose to spend it on trifling things (or worse).

I think you see conflict in my views because you don't the obvious middle ground. The response to someone stealing your pencil is not to steal their car. Congress has options available to it far short of choosing destruction. You don't seem to grasp what a prolonged default will cause.

And in the sense that both of our groups will have defaulted, yes, we are similar in that regard. And by choice no less.

Nope. More property, more land, more businesses, more factories. Bought for pennies on the dollar during the collapse with worthless paper money.

The time to buy is when there is blood in the streets.

Well put. Resisting the fascism that is the ACA is directly the opposite of Nazism. Someone needs to read a little history methinks.

Yes, you are not speaking wrongly. I understand the German default happened as a result of Germany struggling to pay reparations under the treaty of Versailles. And while not he wasn't the actual cause, it did happen under Hitler's Chancelorship, so it isn't a false statement. My statement about Nazis here is primiarly hyperbole and "baiting", but in the sense that we will join them in default, it is none-the-less true, in the way I stated it.

That line says all I need to know about you. Do you know how to spot a cheater in a relationship, they are the one that is obsessively jealous that the other person is cheating. Want to know what a leftist really wants in a government, they are the ones calling everyone else a Fascist.

Do you think there is a difference between government forcing someone to buy a product from a company and a government forcing a company to sell a product at a government mandated price? There is no difference BOTH are Fascist.

And showing 2 pictures of governing bodies does not prove a point, it proves that most legislative houses are set up similar because of function not ideological comparisons.

You are taking the joke literally. I didn't say anything about policy. The comment is on default, and the comparison beyond that is a partial pun.

I think part of the plan is the fiat currency fails. Then when it does, people will rush to sell physical assets before the currency falls too far.

And then 'they' swoop in, buy the real assets with paper money and laugh. It worked just fine last time, why change it this time?

Your the one who is confused. To blackmail the country into destruction is not the way to accomplish anything...and no body is going to jail for not getting health insurance.

Oh no. DON'T buy insurance, DON'T pay the tax. What do you think happens to tax cheats?

Ask Wesley Snipes what happens when you don't pay your taxes.
