Never mind the fact that was Socrates.

Maybe you should give him read.

There is nothing new under the sun.

I never consider scripture at all, organized religion is the ultimate betrayal and justifies too many heinous acts by mankind through the promise of forgiveness in the hereafter.

I prefer to avoid mistakes rather than beg forgiveness for them.

Well, I hear you. But, I'm glad some people know what's going on with quantum mechanics. Universe solved!

Your contribution to this thread is another reason it needs to flagged heavily. Come on ATS, where are you?

Man I wasn't trying to preach to you. Just saying.....you get burned by the used car salesman then shame on you....but if you get sold out shame on the other guy. It is simply, in this world, not a matter of being dumb and trusting all the time for a person to get burnt and lesson learned. You can get stabbed in the back and sold out for being simply who you are. That's a whole other area and proposition with a completely different set of cause and effect.

This is how it was for our parents.
Its like molding people or indoctrination.
We live in an age of info and disinfo, they didn't have that option and lived in the disinfo age. (as do we in some regards)

They had no clue,we have the ability to now say...YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE while pretending that WE DO.

Its a funny thing and it will most likely continue with the children of today.

for all of you young people that think your parents don't have a clue....having knowledge of something pertinent to important events, and having the ability to change those events with that knowledge, are 2 separate entities. ten of billions of dollars a year are spent worldwide to keep common people disorganized, disillusioned, and divided. the roadblocks are numerous, well-thought-out and researched, and robustly funded.

I think what we're saying is that if a parent knows something important, don't hide it from the children. If a parent feels helpless, it doesn't mean a child won't work for and bring about change. My dad, a WWII vet, took forever to tell me the US had advance knowledge of Pear Harbor. I was out of high school when I found out my dad was interested in conspiracies like the The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment . He told me he agreed with me that the World would be better off a socialist utopia, but it can never happen. He told me I would be destroyed if I talked about it. He told me to conform hard and make a lot of money. He told me that it will all be over soon, and we will live in eternal bliss with Jesus. I told him I'm an atheist. He told me to not talk about that either if I valued my happiness. So, I agree that parents are victims of age old lies as well.

Im 54 an age is just a number an unfourtunately a deteriating body an health in my case.

But even in my youth I perceived some wisdom inherent in children that the adults around me either has lost or never had.

Ive met 8 yr olds whom make more common sence than any adults.

I don't think I was sold a bill of goods as a child as I grew up in a dysfunctional family an was the victim of continuous abuse violence.

So to me growing up no fairy tales exsisted an leaveing child hood was a blessing an a curse as Id never realy experiences true child hood

Ive always been a cynic always expected the worse an if it doesn't ocour then its a bonus.

Life is what we make it what ever age we can go forward or we can stagnate or even regress and become more child like the older we get.

Age is just a nuber but old age is either a blessing or a curse its up to ypu an if your luck any loved ones to make the best of it .

Because no matter what we get to experience life unlike all the sperm that never won the race to fertilise an egg

Or all the foetuses aborted an flushed we the lucky ones that get the chance to age an die

Are better of than those whom never get the chance to be born never mind grow old or live long an prosper.

Having re-read my post I apologize for the last line. It didn't come out as intended and even felt "off" as I wrote it. Thank you for the thread, it wasn't taken lightly (it was quite personal actually!) and more importantly for making the effort to see where I was aiming.

Can't always hit the mark... that'd be boring!

I used to trust:distrust 90%:10%. Now I trust 0%. Betrayal is the worst feeling, and I've been betrayed one too many times. It's piled up over the years and that's swayed the cost benefit analysis for me, so I believe nothing and trust no one. I've pretty much lost faith in humans. It's a bit of a sad way to live at times, but in the end, it's better for me. For sure.

I hear you loud an clear I am of the same train of thought.

Is it better to have never loved than lost that love?

Definitely in my cynical mind.

And I was this way still am fot the majority of humans.

I was lucky enough though not to meet a kindred spirt but someone with a different outlook on life.

She had the misery an dissapointments an let downs far more than me to be honest.

An if anyone was entitled to be a cynic it was her.

However her reasoning was that she would rather encounter a thousand dissapointments an heart aches in the hopes of finding one true friend .

Than never to even attempt an perhaps lose the chance of joy an happynesss.

I met her 18 yrs ago an we will never part.

Why?

The old "actions speak louder than words"... or "they can talk the talk, but do they walk the walk?"

I don't blame a single person but myself for where I am in life. This doesn't mean there hasn't been people that have effected my life good or bad over the years. One thing that I have come to believe in is actions over time. Everything else is easy...

There are always exceptions to everything, and people who come along to prove us wrong. just saying it's a lot harder to prove (operative word) anything to me now. But you understand anyway.

Don't get me wrong. i'm happier than almost everyone I know and run into. I don't need much, am very content in my choices, and totally understand why others choose the way they do.

Boy as a 33 year old single father i can tell you is my entire world appears to be in emotional turmoil over this exact topic. I've certainly betrayed in my past but i can tell you that my experience of being betrayed is as you said it, from high school to the work field, from relationships to religion, from politicians to consumer products almost everything is more hype then reality.

So in regard to emotional turmoil, i am left with, what's the point of all this? This world is so half ass backwards, self serving and broken and yet we are expected to be morally straight when all else is crooked. I understand that by taking advantage of others and use the hype as others do to get my way i can have what I think I want. But for me, selling myself out for this seems trivial which leaves me back at the drawing board wondering now what.

Sometimes I wish I never got curious abut the Iraq war, i wish I never stumbled across ATS back in 2004 or any other sites attempting to provide an alternative to our accepted reality. Because now I can't disregard what I have learned and therefore can't seem to blend in with the rest of humanity. I simply stick out like an über sore thumb.

Well I know for me I would rather know the ugly truth than a beautiful lie.

Some people like to live in the fantasy world but not me.

Its hard I wont lie to you but it is what you make of it. My suggestion is to surround yourself with like minded individuals and try to make a little bubble of reality that best fits your moral code.

This world is heaven and hell where you end up is up to you.

Good luck and god speed.
