It isn't often that I find myself agreeing with Jerry Brown of California but, here is a case where we find common ground.

Once again, cronyism rears head in California


Gov. Jerry Brown has joined business groups in seeking reform, referring to CEQA, as now practiced, as “a blob.” But the environmental and labor groups that have used its provisions effectively have resisted major change.


Ronald Reagan's California Environmental Quality Act has become a weapon of extortion like all regulations become, sooner or later.



Do something for us, they could and sometimes would implicitly threaten, or we’ll tie up your project in court for years or even decades and it will die an expensive, lingering death. Many payoff demands have absolutely nothing to do with environmental protection.


I bet there are enough examples of this sort of thing to start a new forum on cronyism.

Hmmm, I am a little surprised that the misuse of legislation for extortion purposes is of no interest to anyone here but, maybe this was just overlooked?
