As far as I'm concerned Obama is not a leader or the real power in the white house, his just the manager without real power to actually change anything unless his private masters allow him.

Hate Putin? Are you nuts? He's probably the only tough guy who can in today's world hold a stand and keep us from falling into total slavery. He's the man of the hour - right now Freedom of the World rests on his shoulders.

Most Canadians that I know, like Russia, and Putin. Russians in general are well liked by us. Love the Russian accent too

I've heard Canadians are treated well there.

They're not communist anymore either, they're a mix of socialism and capitalism according to a documentary on Russia that I saw a few years ago. That documentary also said Putin had done well for Russia's people economically.

Every time I've moved where I live, I go further north. I've commented to friends that a couple more moves, I'm going to have to learn the Russian language.
I think subconsciously (I blame G W Bush), I'm distancing from the US.....

For a few reasons I dislike him-- but he deserves respect, just as did Poppy.
They're both Old School Shop/KGB and make no mistake, ruthless. If that adds
to some sophomoric mystique, remember where they're from, when you imagine
where they are/or respectively were headed with the plan. And trust me, although
not obvious there will always be one. I appreciate Putin's candor, but I abhor the
methods as much as any national CEO's.

He is trying to do a good job rather than appealing to any group of idiots.

There is something to be said for that.

Breaking apart the fabric of society because lady GaGa tells you too isn't the best way to go about making policy.

The people who are most vocal in their support of tearing apart society are the famous idols. These people are in the pockets of the corporations and "Illuminati", at least, according to this site they are. Think about it.

Putin is the only real leader today.. the dude is tough as nails and speaks bluntly.. something i like and I wish our leaders would do instead of using all thsi double speak.

Every interview I have listened to him speak in.. i am in awe... he handles himself very well.

My wife on the other hand does not like him because he is blunt and he antagonizes other nations based on how he talk to them. She also thinks that he should have the russian government do more for the people.. she says he is greedy and he should give more money to the people.. so she fits in with the democrats here.... She thought the USA government was very generous... she met a couple from burma who were housed and cared for by the government.. and she heard about all the financial aid we send to other countries...

then i showed her my paycheck and all the taxes that they take out.. she asked... why do they take so much money from you... I replied.. "who do you think flips the bill for that burmese couple and that foreign aid" .
she said it wasn't honest and she changed her opinion on things.


From my point of view the russians do not have it to bad. base on my experience with my wifes family...

her mother(school tutor/teacher) and sister travel 3 times out of the year and spend 2 weeks minimum on their trips.

her father(government worker/private worker) takes a month off from work to work at his house outside of moscow.... where he has a flat.. he takes a month of work and he is jsut fine...

her grandparents have a home out in a village where they live off the land. they plant and harvest their own crops.. they get their milk from their neighbor adn their meat from another neighbor.... her granpa made their own sauna that rivals that of my local gym. he has a boat and a bike and he takes me fishing.

they are in their 70s.

what i did find different was that many people have two jobs and one is usually off the record.

On the social issues especially the one having to do with gays and lesbians.. well most of the people there agree with that... so it is a moot point if they like that and they believe in that .. they are allowed to... it is their effin country.

And Mussolini made the trains run on time..... a dictator is still a dictator. And rigging elections of the Duma, putting a puppet in power until Putin could come back, change the constitution, and run again, crushing and jailing all opposition.... how can one even tell if, as you say, almost all Russians approve of his policies? Newspapers shut down, tv and radio stations shut down, opposition leaders jailed, peaceful protests broken up violently...... I doubt he is even remotely close to as popular as you say, in actuality.

like none of that happens in the USA.. short of disregarding or re writing the constitution.

Putin is ok. He definitely does what's best for Russia regardless of the consequences which is fine for the Russians but not so fine for the rest of the world. He also has a good publicist that makes him look like he can/does do everything which is always good for propaganda.

In the end, I would be fine if he were the US president for two terms but he's the type of guy that would rewrite the laws to serve longer than two. In the end he's just another power hungry dictator, albeit a good strong leader.

Some of my relatives do that too... They have a large orchard, and they share their fruit with the neighbours, and their neighbours use their excess land to farm wheat...not that selling wheat pays back, so the neightbours feed their livestock with it and share the produce (milk & meat). Any excess produce can be sold in the local markets.

If you know Russian well, just visit Russia, and it will be obvious. Of course, if you come without Russian skills, you will most likely meet anti-Putinists, since the average Russian only speaks Russian and maybe Belorussian or Ukrainian (or Kazakh, or Mongol, depening on the area you choose to visit). The polls show around 70% of Russians suppourt him, but obviously, you won't believe the polls. He took Russia out of post-USSR poverty. Old people were starving to death, and not just the old.
Russia needs a strong leader. Do you know what it was like under Yelstin? A handful of oligarchs owned everything, and nothing even trickled down to the average person. I wouldn't say he's un-democratic, although in one speech he said something about "controlled democracy". Let me ask you something:
Scenario:
A new president in USA (or wherever you live) has been elected. He does everything the majority of people (and you) want from him, living standards are increasing, wages are growing expotentially, prices are low. mostly everything is good. Then, his second term ends, and you get a BS president who screws up the economy, wages plummet, everything is being screwed over and your life is hard, you lose your job. Then, there is an election. and you can re-elect the old guy. Would you do it? Not saying Medvedev was bad, but if the so called "opposition", which is really a gang of the richest people get elected, that is what is goign to happen.

Personally I hate Putin because he was in an intelligence organisation, and frankly speaking, the sort of sociopathic sons of dogs that get employed in those roles should'nt be left in charge of a McDonalds branch, let alone a superpower nation.

Add to his former role in the KGB, the fact that he is now in politics, I very much doubt that if I saw him bleeding to death in an alley, I would be able to find my mobile phone until JUST after he had died, and you can bet your freedom loving butts I wouldnt try CPR on the fellow either. Im sorry, but intelligence operatives and politicians... wouldnt spit on them to save thier lives frankly. No matter which nation they are from, they are the enemy, and always will be.

Also in the UK and I've never really heard that much dislike about Obama, no more than any previous president anyway. I also think if you want to know how well Putin does as a president then the only people who can answer that are people who live in Russia and are in an average or slightly below average job, or who cannot find a job.

There are roughly 144 million Russians and Putin is just one of them. I don't know him, he may not even exist, he may be a figment of the propaganda machine. Hence, I do not 'hate' Putin, and I think nobody in here really can, unless he knows him in person. I do, however, frown upon things that are presented under his name by his Government, for example when I read about Russians not being allowed to promote homosexuality.

I'm just reacting from the gut here. I think Putin is a terrific guy. America has Putins but they are kept out of power.

Putin was the protégé of Boris Berezovsky, but rather than being a simple tool, he turned out to be someone with ideas of his own. I think he is a decent man at the top of a very volatile situation that is only now, under his oversight, beginning to settle down. To some extent, I think, he represents the old Kremlin establishment who are trying to adapt to Russia's new situation. The oligarchs, like Berezovsky, stole a march on the old guard when the Soviet Union collapsed, but this collection of powerful people reasserted themselves through Putin.

Putin was KGB.

I think the worst thing that Putin has done since coming to power was to foster a cult of personality around himself. Removing Mikhail Kordokhovsky, former head of Yukos, was possibly, I believe, necessary at the time it happened, but it should not be a long term thing. I think Russia would benefit from Kordokhovsky's presence on the political scene. He is a brilliant man and certainly a political match for Putin.

I have a feeling that Putin is ambivalent about Kordokhovsky. He fears him politically but, I think, is secretly proud that Russia produces such people. I hope that when Putin is confident in himself, Kordokhovsky will be freed and Russia will begin to get the politics of issues that it deserves.

I'm neutral on him.

Also about economy, there was a certain German politician that was very good at improving the economy.
Besides that he did other things, but that's not important. Right?

Do you even understand what the name "Pussy Riot" means?

They are calling the rioter/protesters from the "March of Millions" and the "Occupy Wall street" movements a bunch of pussies. The very name itself is inflammatory, an attempt to cause violence in the populace against the government.

As to homosexuals, the very corporations that are promoting "gay rights" are pumping the environment and our food full of endocrine disruptors which have been PROVEN to cause gender identity disorders. These corporations have even made it LEGAL for them to do this. That being said, I couldn't care less about who you bone on your free time.

People like Putin because he can get up on TV without pre arranged questions and arguments and answer pretty much any question. I believe Putin is the greatest statesman of the 21st century without a doubt. Have a look at the election debates in America, they never ask or handle hard questions, just distraction issues.

I have watched a couple of Putin's QNA. They are really good. I would love to see Obama or Cameron get up before cameras and have people ask them anything. I tried looking for some videos on youtube of the Q and A sessions but their are none.

you must all be pretty young, but a little history should put that into perspective because before arabs were sawing off peoples heads it was the (KGB)FSB committing war crimes.
The FSB and done its own share of ethnic cleansing, assassinating journalists, arms sales, espionage, etc, dont be fooled by the hype, hes every bit the ex KGB we know and love, dissent is handled without a care of international opinion,
look up Alexander Litvinenko, Anna Politkovskaya, or anything on chechnyan war.

True he makes more sense these days as our leaders go more and more rogue, but dont be so quick to make him a hero as i doubt Obama has the same bodycount yet. The shock I was in when they were in the right on the Georgian conflict, and their stance on several international issues lately is something relatively new to the international community over 40.

Russia and America have cut a path of destruction across history and the world for 60 years and make no mistake they share in the same evil.
