Moving to UK from Eastern Europe

Me and my family are going to move to UK, Southampton from Eastern Europe. We have airline tickets for next week. We're bringing along 200 euros with us to survive while we find jobs. Any tips?

Yes I have a good tip, DON'T COME, 90% of people coming to the UK wont find work now, mostly because firms are getting rid of staff not taking them on, plus 200 euro wont last you a week, let alone time to find work, remember the UK Gov wont let ANYONE have ANY payments of benefit now unless you have done a min of 6 months work in the UK.
All over the UK we see East European people sleeping rough in shop doorways and dykes or sheds, if you think it is easy to survive in the UK the last 3 years your kidding yourself.

I agree, 200 euros? have you checked our new laws concerning coming over here? you will be lucky getting past passport control tbh.
You will not be able to claim benefits for at least 6 months, which country are you coming from? what trade are you in? because many here are finding it hard to get full time employment.
Good luck either way but the UK is not the place of milk and honey anymore.

200 euros is a weeks shopping for your family rental of a house/flat 1000 pm plus deposit . things are bad in the south of england .

people are actually paying to get trafficked OUT of england it is that bad ??? .

stay where you are at least you will have friends around you this is not the land of milk and honey some think

Bring more money, a lot more.

Jobs are very scarce at the moment - finding work will probably take at least a month (can do recruitment agency work in the meantime but there's no guarantee of regular working hours). 200E won't last more than a week sadly and the average landlord would require at least 800E (deposit + one months rent) and proof of a job for a basic flat.

Dont bother move to Germany is my anwnser.

UK you will be lucky to find work with in a month, most likley you will be waiting 6 months or a year depending on your skills!

You will also face alot of intolerance from us natives as there are a lot that blame our lack of jobs on Eastern Europeans, do you want to subject your children to that? Its not something I beleive but there are plenty that do and some of them are pretty nasty and thugish.

And you wont be able to claim benifits either (dont listen to the rumours).

And 200 Euros? You would be lucky if it lasts you a week in the south east.

Im afraid you looking at a hostile Country, thats over populated, has no jobs and is overpriced.

I would look else were if you want to move.

Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands and even France are your best bets.

I hope you mistyped saying €200, you need a minimum of €2000. Getting to interviews, getting a uk mobile/sim card, accommodation/food etc. even if you get a job straight away(more likely to take a few months) you will have to wait probably 6weeks to get your first months pay.
Good luck but England is full of eastern Europeans sleeping in tents, on park benches etc because there are no jobs

a pack of 20 cigs costs 9 euro a pack of tobacco 15 euro train ticket 30 miles 15 euro .

200 euro will last you one day with family unless you have already job and home sell tickets fast

The only tip i could give is see if you can get the tickets refunded

Unless you fancy sleeping on the streets, eating via raiding restaurant bins and begging on a street corner as 200 euro's will be gone in no time as you'll lose some when converting it to sterling, and thats before you get the local nutters deciding to give you a good kicking and stealing everything you own etc

If I stay here, I'll be homeless by winter because the wage is 200 euros and it costs 200 euros just for heating in winter. I live in a 5-storey apartament building so heating is not optional.

Latvia is in the EU, all I have to do is to show them my passport.

which country are you coming from? what trade are you in?

I'm from Latvia. I have no degrees/trade whatsoever.

My country isn't perfect either. After the referendum on Russian language, it's gotten very tense. Ecspecially with those 16th March Nazi SS Legion Marches in the capital sponsored by the gov't (100% legal and they are called "Legionnaire Rememberance Day".

It will cost you £400 for heating most likey over here and your rent will be higher too. Why not consider Germany or one of the EU countrys that are doing far better?

Then you have far better options in other EU country. Look at Germany they are doing rather well.

Then you stand no chance. Im pretty sure you will be homeless in a month if not sooner as most people with no qualifications are waiting 6 months or more for work.

It may no be as bad over here but there are countrys less tense than the UK.

we are not trying to be rude only telling you the truth. The UK is not the place you want to be right now.There are far better options. If you move here you will still end up in the same situation as you would do in latvia only you would be far from home too.

i met a latvian who fell on hard times over in scotland my friends had to get him a ticket home it was that bad .

the local authority refused him emergency help gave him a bus ticket to london to the latvian embassy .

when he got there they let him use the phone and that was it ??

the whole of europe is in a bad way people in this country cannot afford to heat homes in the winter and things are only getting worse you have a roof at the moment think about it more .

Well in the EU he has 27 countrys to choose from.

Somewhere like Demark, Germany and Finland or Sweden are doing better than the UK at the moment and would provide much better oppotunitys than overpopulated, broke UK.

But if there is no work you cant work your arse off and there is no benifits so you wont get any money

Because they taught us english in school :S...Besides, again, I forgot to mention we have family there.

These Latvian "embassies" are nothing more than the place where the top guys put their family so they can soak up the cash. Reminds me of when a Lithuanian plane had a guy who had a heart attack (or something serious) and they stopped their plane in Tajikistan. Turns out they had to request permission to land and the pilot was sued. The Lithuanian embassador: If the guy is guilty, he'll spend jailtime...That's the only thing he said.

I know the site has lots of jobs listed but it deciving

A lot of sites put fake jobs up or recycle old jobs so it looks like they have more than you think and you use them.

Also for every job you look at you will have maybe 100 to 400 others competeing against you.


And well the country is overpopulated.


Honnestly I would look at other options.
