The Dark Ages was caused by the fall of Rome, due to invasion from non-Christian barbarian tribes. The Catholic Church, on the other hand, is responsible for the modern system of higher education, the development of hospitals and modern medicine, and Christians have long been at the forefront of science.

Sure. After the dark ages at the beginning of the Renaissance Period, I'm sure they did just that. The definitely did not do so during the Dark Ages.

The Big Bang was also theorized around 1925, centuries after the dark ages and has no bearing on the scientific and cultural void left by the Christians and Catholics.

The Dark Ages was a period of religious struggle. Orthodox Christians and Catholics viewed the era from opposing perspectives. Orthodox Christians regarded this time as a period of Catholic corruption; they repudiated the ways of the Catholic Church with its papal doctrines and hierarchy. Orthodox Christians strove to recreate a pure Christianity, void of these “dark” Catholic ways. Catholics did not view this era as “dark.” Catholics viewed this period as a harmonious, productive religious era. The Dark Ages were also the years of vast Muslim conquests. Along with other nomads and horse and camel warriors, the Muslims rode through the fallen empire, wreaking havoc and seeding intellectual and social heresy in their wake. Muslim conquests prevailed until the time of the Crusades.

Text It's not entirely accurate either. Christianity was founded before the Romans adopted it. It was a kind of "can't beat 'em join 'em" situation. The Romans tried to suppress the spread of Christianity and when they couldn't....well you know the rest of the story.

You are more right than wrong.

True Christianity was the Jerusalem church. The Jerusalem church was Hebrew with Hebrew liturgy. The Hellenist Greeks and were later adopted into the church but had nothing to do with its foundation. This first Christian organization was established on the day of Pentecost following the murder of Jesus and this group of disciples and the Apostles of Christ formed the first Christian church in Jerusalem. The Jerusalem church flourished with harsh persecution from both Rome and the Jewish Sanhedrin for well over forty years.

In fact the Jerusalem Church's history is well established to about 135 AD when they were systematically murdered and the Roman empire took control of the doctrine of Christ Jesus. At the turn of the century the entire organization emerged as Gentile and from there history records very little of the true church and true Christians.

Most people are taught or led to the understanding that Roman Catholicism is the true church of Christ while the Jerusalem church history is totally ignored. This is understandable simply because Rome established their church on a lie and murder and its true nature could not be embraced by history with out lasting damage. Even though the common language of the land of Rome was Greek, the language of legal and church affairs was Latin.

Like I said, the name was originally - truly originally - Emmanuel. But I doubt Caesar's people called him Caesar and Stalin's people called him Stalin. Different cultures, different dialects.

Oh no. Of course not. The fall of the Roman Empire was the cause of the dark ages. Religion simply compounded the matter. Allowed it to stagnate for centuries while the Catholic church grappled for power across Europe.

Meanwhile the technological advances that the Romans built were cast aside by the church and left to waste. Roman centers for higher education went unused. The Aqueducts went unused and were mostly destroyed. Advancements in hygiene and public health went away, leading up to the black plague in the mid-1300's.

Something that could have possibly been avoided if technology had continued to progress.

Had technology continued to advance...we'd also have more ways to destroy each other....It's a lose-win

Perhaps. But without risk, you cannot have reward.

Like the Manhattan Project, for example. The study of advanced physics which leads to the creation of the atomic bomb. Which then leads to nuclear power and nuclear propulsion.

Or Germany's scientists developing the V-2 Rocket during World War 2. Which also led to the creation of rockets which allowed us to get as far as the moon.

Or the submarine. Initially developed as a weapon of war. While it still is a weapon today, it has also led to major advancements in the study of the ocean and mapping and exploration of the sea floor.

Our most current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have given rise to a major advancement in emergency medical care and prosthetics.
