You know, I see a story like this where you just want to bash your head against something (probably stupid to do but I don't actually do it!
) because of someone else's extreme lack of common sense and intelligence and eventually after the last of my braincells finishing popping in agony, I ponder the same question--why the hell is this news? Is it news because it's actually newsworthy? Then again, the news also tends to think that wardrobe malfunctions on movie stars are newsworthy so maybe it is to them. Or maybe it's to make people feel good about themselves because hey, at least they aren't as stupid as that guy.

We seem to really revel in the freakishly stupid and appalling as a society and I can't help but think that the media traipses out the freak show to make us feel better about ourselves. Look at shows like Honey Boo Boo or that show about hoarders. Why do we revel in the abnormality and lack of intelligence of others? Maybe I'm just thinking too much again but sometimes I think it's to make us be insensitive to others. What else would you call a show or news article that is so blisteringly painful/stupid other that basically makes a mockery of other people?

Well maybe he was a 2 pack a day man and this will be his call to stop smoking. At $5.87 a pack he will get that remaining $2000 back in less than 6 months.

It's a cultural thing; perfectly exemplified by this quote...

I read about this the other day. The guy is stupid. There is no arguing the fact he is just stupid. No one with any common sense wastes money on a crap carnival game, especially that much.

I read he went back the next day to complain and got some money back. I guess good for him but he sure is not going to learn his lesson that way. If not for him having a child I would not feel any sense of sadness in the story. I do though feel sorry that the child will have to grow up with an idiot parent that wastes money that could feed and put clothes on his child on games.

This guy needs to be brought to reality.

I saw this yesterday and felt kind of sorry for the guy after watching the video... walking along dejected, with only a giant stuffed banana to console him.

The giant stuffed banana intrigued me, though, so I did some digging -- there's apparently quite the market for those things, and I found a place that sells them for $150. I debated buying a bunch and sending them to him so that he could have more "friends", but nah...

What an idiot. Why would you waste more trying to win something than the something costs??

That game is impossible by the way, I fell into that trap before. I gave up and felt stupid after $30 though. Not $2300..

The banana is cool as hell though. I want one.

I love the one user review:

This is the best purchase I've ever made. Period.

That dose of penicillin? Your first car? Engagement ring?

Casinos would love this guy.
It would take him 10 minutes to lose that much.
What a tool.

Even if your teacher was providing you worth wile information, there are interests at work in society that even something as simple as that will seem subversive and will dedicate time not only to prevent but work to punish spreading the information. Now think a bit more and look around you, what else is being hidden from you...

I'm sure he could have got a bit more for that ring and bracelet, and gambled that too, so he isn't totally broke. Someone would cash that in for him. I lived with a gambler and they really don't care about anything while the play is happening, it is all about the rush they get while they are doing it.

Life with a gambler is so sad and hell on on earth for the rest of the family as nobody or nothing can control their urge. It is a weakness they can't comprehend nor control and I BET this is only the tip of the ice berg that has been going on for years.

He was probably upset that he couldn't make it to the casino that night. Life savings, a gambler doesn't have life savings they only have money that they won on their previous outing.

Star for the laugh.

I would not waste my money on someone who is that irresponsible. However the idea is quite humorous. Maybe he could sell his banana and get a little bit more money back.

Exactly. I personally believe schools should put more effort on teaching kids how pointless such games are. In statistics lessons it is easy to take such things on and show how bad the odds are.

My math teacher taught us such things by personally making the exercises. I remember one problem where we calculated weekly lottery things. It came out if you buy 2 tickets a week you will win 3 times in 40 000 years. Is it worth it? No and I remember the lesson forever

That won't happen as long as kids are taught the statistically impossible chances of life coming about by chance over and over again is a reality.

Whenever you talk with an evolutionist they say statistics do not matter. And when you point out how stupidly insane the chances are of their blind faith evolution fairy-tale is they will call you ignorant.

So, yeah, teachers aren't going to teach the truth about statistics in schools any time soon.

(One example of a statistical impossibility of evolution: The human body contains around 50,000 chromosomes. A single chromosome has to be folded upon itself in a precise manner. What are the statistics that one chromosome would fold just in the right way upon itself? Scientists estimate the chances are 1 in a billion billion billion. In fact you would need a primordial soup the size of the entire universe, and you would need to give it billions of times the the age of the universe to get one of these to fold upon itself correctly. But not just one, around 50,000 of them all came about in one instant in time, along with DNA with its digital book of information (which if printed out could fit in encyclopedias that would fill the grand canyon in its deepest place from top to bottom - and yes it writing concise writing that carries the blueprint of life) and also the RNA and all of the enzymes needed to help the RNA duplicate the DNA along with many other processes.)

Sorry if this is a rant about statistics. Just wanted to show how it is not going to happen, ever, to teach students the truth about statistics in the classroom.

Anyway, the most intelligent people will ignore them if it is to blindly follow a prejudiced agenda.

Well that's dumb.. maybe he should have just gone and bought a kinect. I mean, if I were him I probably wouldn't have even admitted this.

Financial Darwinism.

In my opinion he deserved to lose his money if he's that bad at math.

Do you know how many Kinects you could buy with $2,600?

25.
