NH Man Loses Life Savings On Carnival Game

Henry Gribbohm says he lost his life savings, $2,600, on a carnival game and all he has to show for it is a stuffed banana with dreadlocks.

“You’re expecting the kids to win a few things, let the kids have a good time,” said Gribbohm. “It just didn’t turn out that way.”

Gribbohm says he attended a Manchester carnival run by New Hampshire-based Fiesta Shows and wanted to win an Xbox Kinect at a game called Tubs of Fun where contestants toss balls into a tub.

2600 is not that much, although when a poor person has these as life savings, then you must extremely unintelligent to lose it on something like this.

Any person with at least some thinking should be able to figure out to never go to casino "to win" or spend money on such things. It is simply idiotic, as in long-term nobody is able to be in positive balance. House always wins and that is a good example.

I was read this last night and I couldn't believe how stupid that man was for spending all his money. There is even a picture of him pushing a infant in a stroller. Think about it! Can you say IDIOT! Wasting money on a carnival game for a video game accessory that you could buy without wasting your money at the carnival.

I know of several people who are collecting welfare or barely scrape by with a low wage job who spend a large amount of their money on lottery tickets. I've tried to talk some sense to one of my friends but he just doesn't get it, I've dumb down the odds for him and everything, but when some people just don't understand math and money management and never will.

If you can count cards at blackjack or a have deep understanding of poker then you can go to a casino and expect to win, just saying.....

He dropped $300 in just a few minutes, then says he went home to get $2,300 more and soon lost all of that as well.

And we are suppose to feel bad for this idiot?

Henry says he went back the next day to complain, and the man running the game gave him back $600. Henry split with the banana and the cash, and filed a report with the Manchester Police Department.

Gribbohm says he is considering a lawsuit.

“For once in my life I happened to become that sucker,” said Gribbohm. “It was foolish for putting up my life savings.”

It'd be too much if he took responsibility for his actions.

Exactly. I personally believe schools should put more effort on teaching kids how pointless such games are. In statistics lessons it is easy to take such things on and show how bad the odds are.

My math teacher taught us such things by personally making the exercises. I remember one problem where we calculated weekly lottery things. It came out if you buy 2 tickets a week you will win 3 times in 40 000 years. Is it worth it? No and I remember the lesson forever

Tell that to the guys who won 1200 the other night on roulette. People do expect to win when they gamble, but you also have to be able to take a loss. I'm more of a poker guy myself, house games and slots take pure luck.

Your chances of winning are so low, that there is even no point in playing. Every once in a while one guy might win, but another 1000 suckers lose at the same time.

Going to casino with lots of money to win is pointless. Sometimes (maybe once a year or at a bachelor party/something like that) it is not bad to play, it might be fun, although the budget should be held very tightly and thought through, as in 99,99% you will lose everything.

I remember having a chat with a guy who won about 2000 dollars at casino. He was happy. Although he forgot that he had lost 10 000 during the last years. At the end still the house won.

So true. The lottery is one of the biggest gimmicks, they rake the state takes in nothing short of robbery. I refer to lottery tickets as the stupid tax.

What gets me is there are many people who truly believe their best chance to make a million dollars is to play the lottery. The average American is mentally challenged when it comes to understanding numbers.

I play holdem at the casino, I have a deep understanding of poker and even then luck plays an important part in your eventual outcome.

I win once in a while playing the Roulette Wheel....but the only way is to counter your tendency to bet more and bigger and quit after you have been successful for several hours and just won several in a row. "Color out please."

The gentleman has a life savings of 2600 and he was willing to blow it on a game, for a game.
Many things in the story tell me that this man has made more than these mistakes in life.
Maybe nationwide humiliation due to his stupidity will straighten this idiots priorities.

Here luckily the country owns the lotteries, so all the profits go directly to something worthful, usually to support youth sports or something like that.

Not only was he too stupid to not stop himself from blowing his "life savings" of $2600 he actually felt no shame in bringing this action to the attention of the nation.

This ape is a winner all around.

It must suck to be so stupid. Or is it like being crazy? It only sucks if you know you're crazy.

Winners all round

I suppose this incident brings up one of the big ethical questions of all time. We all know that a fool and his money are easily parted. But the real question is, that being the case, do we simply chalk it up to idiocy and forget it, or should we be disgusted that one person used anothers stupidity against him, and fleeced him of his savings?

When door to door fraudsters swindle old ladies out of thier pensions or savings, the neighborhood is up in arms within hours of being alerted, if not sooner. When vulnerable people are exploited by big businesses and cowboy companies, we are enraged. And yet, this man, this simpleton could be argued to be nearly as afflicted by his base buffoonery as any old aged pensioner with dementia, or brain damage case, but because he appears to have been BORN with all the critical thinking ability of a baked potato, it seems that sympathy for him is low.

I for one believe that it is not the people who loose thier money who are at fault, but those callous enough to take it. Look at the massive increase in online gambling over the last ten years. People playing with and loosing thier life savings, ignoring all the government warnings placed on advertising, ignoring all the sage advice of thier accountants, priests, preachers, brothers, sisters, aunts uncles, mothers fathers and every other important figure in thier lives, because something about the way the game is set up, speaks to thier mentality, and makes them want to play.

And sure enough, the law supports a persons free will, to do as they please as long as the law remains unbroken, to win or loose at thier own behest and with thier own limits.

I like games. But I never play any game for money. It is not because I lack skill, but because I lack money, and because that which I do possess, has a value of which I am starkly aware. I also know that the percentile chance of winning any game which requires more luck than skill (that is, any game which could even be loosely described as gambling) more times than you loose, is very very small indeed. I refuse to even play the lottery for the same reason. I value my money, and I know that I am more likely to be struck by lightning while being brained by falling meteorites than I ever am to land a hundred plus million of lottery winnings.

However, not everyone on planet Earth has been blessed with the ability to reason thusly. Some have even been afflicted with such vast ego, that regardless of the intellectual awareness of the facts pertaining to gambling, they believe that thier enormous minds (and gargantuan balls no doubt) are capable of absorbing reality like a kevlar vest, protecting the soft organs of thier bank accounts from the excesses they involve themselves with whilst sat at poker tables, or casting a fevered eye over a spinning roulette wheel.

These people are utter morons of course, but I think the law ought to protect a person from his or her own stupidity. Either that or more folks shouldnt be leaving the house without a responsible guardian, than was previosuly thought.

So the lottery is a mugs game, well i see people winning each week in the UK.

I think Im the mug, I paid for years into a pension and dont even know where it is, I paid insurance to the bank monthly for Disblement cover,

I got disabled they just simply refused to pay out saying take us to court if you want, knowing I did not have the funds to do so, I had all the paperwork and proof that I paid the premiums but they did not care.

So tell me how many winners with winning tickets have the lottery refused to pay out.

Your chance of winning the lottery is slim, very slim in fact but at least you have a chance of payout which is more than can be said if you depend on bankers.

How many people in Cyprus wished they played the lottery rather than save their cash.

I did things the sensible way and Im skint, others play the lottery and are skint or won.

Who is to say what is right and wrong now, but if you do play the lottery and win buy property fast and get as much as you can away from the banks as fast as you can.
