Hi, there. A big Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) has occurred a few hours ago, triggering a M6 class X-ray flare. This means that by apr/13th we should have nice northern lights and maybe a magnetic storm on Earth.

You can find a picture of the CME at

1.bp.blogspot.com...

For those who want a free iPhone/iPad app to monitor the solar activity, I suggest this one

itunes.apple.com...

Some good info also can be found at the website

www.swpc.noaa.gov...

Hi, there. I am an interested one about the Solar Activity, and I've been watching carefully the recent solar flares and magnetic storms to try to understand them and their effects on Earth. I try to investigate a topic with much care before I post it to the community.

Best regards

It should be a moderated one, so we don't need to use a lead umbrella by now...

Thanx a lot for your welcome message!

Best regards

SpaceWeather.com says it'll be a 'glancing blow' .... in other words, we won't get hit head on so it won't be a big deal. We may get lucky and see some northern lights from it. I hope so. That's at the top of my 'bucket list'. I've never seen them and really want to ....

HAHAHAAHAH, it is hard to be a newbie, isn't it???
I just posted an initial new, and I did not realize that I would be presented as a CME!

Well, it is better than nothing, I guess...

Thanx for the welcome and the advice...

In 2006 the aurora was visible where I live, extremely rare, and it fulfilled my lifetimes ambition to see the phenomena.
I am not ashamed to say that it brought tears to my eyes. You won't be disappointed if you ever get to witness one of natures most beautiful spectacles.
Spec-frikken-tacular, I hope you get to see it one day.

No worries friend, if you are interested in solar phenomena you have come to the right place.
There are many very very knowledgable people here on ATS who are very generous with their time and experience - enjoy.

Hello and Welcome to ATS!

I am a big fan of SuspiciousObserver on youtube. He makes a report every morning and if there's a lot going on, he'll post updates.

Take care

I think we are going to have another M class long duration flare yet. I have seen a double peak like that before and it was followed by another larger faster flare. I suppose we will find out shortly. Glancing blows seem to be worse than direct hits some times as the edge of the energy field drags along the earth. Causes more reverberation that way.

So excited, ya just jump in without the rules being read.

1. T's & C's 1st.
2. 20 posts here anywhere-any topic..FIRST...
3. No starting new topics-discussion threads...the INTRODUCTION ONLY FORUM...until you make the 20.
*It lessens your intent that on this subject, you couldnt possibly be taken too seriously...because you didnt do the research on joining this forum even.... so why listen to you and your point at all?

PS Welcome anyway. T's & C's and the SEARCH button here are your friends.

Thanx a lot, this will be very good!

I've found all along these last months that the Solar Activity is very complex, beautiful and it has very important effects in our planet.

Best Regards

I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary for the 13th. When there's a big CME, there's always a boost in the aurora forcast:

Aurora Forcast

That's run by the same university that uses HAARP for research.
