Linking this to culural degradation or a national characteristic such as being lackadaisical is a silly leap, stick to what you know, please.
And boob humour is a fine tradition, it does not make me facetious. I'm mobile at present so have not checked the sun link - I also resolved never to look at that rag again some years ago, but pleasetell, is she a proper swampdonkey?

Here's the bright spot:

The aspiring model will leave her two young children from a previous relationship with her parents while she chases her modeling dream. Read more: www.washingtontimes.com... Follow us: @washtimes on Twitter

Bigger boobs and she gets to dump her children too! NHS making dreams come trooOOOOO!!
(except for the children of course but they don't count as their vanity is not yet fully developed)

There's no prizes for guessing how she "convinced" the doctor that recommended this procedure.

"Just look at them doc, no feel how small they are, ohh"

I hope he's married, and she reads ATS.

And, the kids have not lost a mother, they never had one.

I'm just saying, not to offend you, but the UK often tries to be a trend setter in ways that many people would consider culturally and spiritually destructive. Take glamor models. Only in the UK does parading yourself in the lowest way imaginable enter the common culture. Elsewhere, only niche markets support such things, I.e playboy, porn, is hidden from common view. But in Britain its taken on a disturbing popularity that one naturally wonders, what the eff is wrong with that culture? I'm not attacking Britain in every way. The wisdom of capitalism, liberalism (classical) was invented by brits. But for the last 40 or 50 years, the UK appears to be spear heading a drive towards atheism, voyeurism, moral relativism, and hence, only a culture so morally unsure could support a nitwit who wants implants to cure her depression. This is a symptom of cultural degradation. This would never happen in North America - not yet at least.

i agree. i've known a few women who wear back braces. Reduction is a good idea for a woman if she has those problems because they reshape them to your ideal shape/other qualities that a woman would desire.

I'm making sense and you know it!

Seriously though, I do feel that there are things in contemporary British culture which warrants my belief that there is something morally awry in a culture which allows something which sounds pretty much like satire to North Americans to happen.

Your government paid for a woman's breast implants. Just consider the conditions that have to exist for this to occur: there must be some doctrine in which someone can claim mental disability and receive financial support. This is understandable. This is run of the mill welfare. But nowhere else on earth could someone persuade, let alone permit by law, the government to finance an exorbitant cosmetic surgery which alleviates the personal and subjective feelings of an individual.

If she had some obvious deformation, it would be reasonable. We would understand that real misery can result from such an abnormality. But this is simply a subjective attitude - an immature and childish non-acceptance of her small breasts, something not especially out of the ordinary, considered a disadvantage by the insecure, just as the short man might feel disadvantaged in the dating pool. If you don't like it, you're free out of your own expense to change it.

It's Britain's culture of moral relativism, buttressed by a philosophical atheism, which creates an environment that calls into question fundamental philosophical views.. For example, post modernism question the objective nature of reality. If reality is simply what we make of it, who am I to say that my endogenous depression and her exogenous depression are different? Who's to say that physical comforts arent just as worthy as lofty spiritual transformation? When you attack morals, when you can fail to see the difference between self defense, promotion of liberty, from terrorism and religious fundamentalism, there is something wrong. There are plenty of British intellectuals who advocate just these views. This is the reason why there isn't a greater uproar and obloquy against the official responsible for this utterly wasteful use of taxpayers funds.

In any case, I'm pretty sure administration occurs through quangos, who in turn are appointed by the European government. In which case, you brits have no direct channel to address your complaints. Another major downfall of runaway centralization.

I have to agree that this is pretty idiotic, but far from the most amazing idiotic thing I have heard. I certainly do not want to derail this thread with a list of even more idiotic things.

The UK welfare state is grateful still divorced from too much European interference, so this is purely a UK welfare state issue, not a European one.

This decision would not have been made by any Government official, but made by medical professionals, who in many cases has been trained at taxpayer expense, so sorry to burst any Government incompetence bubble. Any failure here is in the training, medical and fiscal oversight of this medical professional and management structure. Clearly this medical professional has been hoodwinked, but with sound and professional management oversight, this should not have happened.

Interestingly, what will any British taxpayer having commented on this thread, in fact, the vast majority of British taxpayers, actually do? Based on my experience, moan how terrible this is, but do nothing.

Just write to your MP and ask them to confirm this. If they do confirm this is true, then ask how many other times this has been offered as a treatment and the cost.
