Utah's bill on right to bar enforcement of federal gun laws passes House

SALT LAKE CITY — A controversial bill asserting Utah's right to bar the enforcement of federal gun laws in the state passed the House 49-17 Friday after an often passionate debate.

The bill followed a letter from the Utah Sheriff's Association to President Barack Obama warning that the association would not enforce new restrictions on guns and ammunition proposed by the administration.

The bill is off to the state Senate now. It seems like there may be more opposition to the bill in the senate, so there may be some changes made to the bill.

In addition to this bill, there's another that has passed the House and is waiting on the Senate. That bill is the Constitutional Carry bill/

HB114 is one of two high-profile gun bills this session. The second, HB76, would allow Utahns to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. The "constitutional carry" bill passed the House more than a week ago but has not been heard by the Senate.

There's less than a week left before their session ends. Im hoping both of these bill make it through in time and my other state legislatures follow.

Hopefully the spineless Governor Gary Herbert will not veto it, or the other Firearms legislation.

That would be an interesting place to have a state/federal show down. NO one quite matches Nevada for being outright owned by the Federal Government, but Utah is high among the top for a real mix of State vs. Federal land and facilities all across the land area. It would get...messy if it started there I think. The Mormon issues, by past history, would just add to the fur ball it could become if it got rolling.

Someone go get a truck load of Popcorn. We'll need it for the show that should be coming in the not too distant future. Utah is but one of several.
