"These tactics set up a situation where our tax dollars are literally subsidizing the profits of these unethical businesses, it is grossly destabilizing to our society, and it is helping create a welfare nation."

Amen to that, But there is also the 'tiny' issue of corporation tax, how many of these corps actually pay any?

The rights that you openly scoff at were fought for by the french workers, and they were paid for in blood.

You seem proud that your wife works 12 hours a day. Do you understand how pathetic that sounds ? In a few decades you'll be dead, and you will have achieved what ? Money ? That's paper. Social status ? Can't take that with you either. I fail to see what work ethic-related satisfaction could possibly make up for the extra hours that I spend with my loved ones, as opposed to mindlessly grinding away like a good little economic cog.

Being called "lazy" by brainwashed worker-ants like yourself is akin to a compliment.

I agree with what you are saying about having so little time left in the day to spend with family. Working your life away just for money is a terrible life to have. What I have a problem with is expecting other people to pay for my lifestyle if I choose to work less. This is where the disconnect is between the two societies. I do not expect my American government to subsidize me if I feel like only working 25 hours a week. I do not expect government to be helping at my doorstep for every problem that may arise. It seems that Europeans put so much trust in their government that they forget about themselves as individuals. You create your own destiny, not your government. You will never get anywhere in life by doing the government mandated minimum amount of work to get by.

Makes you think doesn't it? Who are the real culprits here, nothing is ever so simple as a seemingly prattish letter like Maurice Taylor's would imply, and this from a company who has already bought a Goodyear plant in the US, months after it was closed. Titan inc smells, and frankly so does Goodyear. fee fi fo fum!

Investing? They are investing in their immediate day to day survival. At the end of the day there is little, if not anything, to invest. Not to mention the 7-10 year shake up to get rid of pensioners and employees making too much "profit". So every 7-10 yrs max you reset to entry level wages, if you are lucky enough to land another job (most likely a part time job).

You are arguing from a position of prosperity. And if were a betting man, I'd bet that your prosperity was gained because you and your wife have been complicit in supporting our corporate welfare nation, not necessarily hard work. Go in the fields and live a week as a farmer. That's hard work. What do they have to show for it?

It's fairly easy to cut necessary jobs and execute all of the tactics that I mentioned previously, because your boss cut your department's budget by 20% and enticed you with a bigger bonus to do so, as long as you can rationalize it and sleep at night. That's ok, we have SSRIs and sleep aids to get you through the night. Hope to see you on the greens at 52!!... If you play your cards right.

That's a good question. How many do? And more importantly, who are they?

Pathetic you say?
Have you ever worked hard for something and accomplished something you are proud of? Have you achieved success through your own hard work?
Obviously not, otherwise you'd see that you, sir, are the pathetic one.
Self esteem doesn't come from placing one's head deeply in one's posterior and massaging one's over inflated ego. It comes from self reliance and creating one's own destiny.

Dependent, entitled, effete and naive does not equal happy.

Let's see where France is in 2014. Unfortunately, if the buffoons in power remain that way, the US is not far behind. Atlas is shrugging right now.

Ok boys n girls,

First things first, some of you might have noticed that my avatar has changed and isn't looking quite right yet, but this normal as the fantastic creators over at the following link are actually working on it :

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Anyway, back to the topic :

I have seen quite a few socialist bashers here on this thread since the OP posted (where are you OP?) such a shame that you couldn't continue your thread, i hope you are ok? or i hope that you didn't have enough because of some of the negative comments here?

Not being one to get involved in Politics in general as i have my own personal points of views and do not wish to share, i have however a pinch of salt to add :

Quite a few people who have answered this thread have ranted on about the French or European socialist Gvts or mentalities... However, what they don't seem to realise is that since the Goldman Sachs affaire quite a while ago when France and quite a few other countries in the EU was still governed by "conservative parties" and which has left most of the world in quite a sh*t situation, things have only been getting worse...

The actual socialist Gvt in place in France was elected mainly by people that hoped that they would get France out of the crisis that was left by Capitalist right wing Gvt and also to say to Sarkozy that they had had enough of him...

What is happening right now is that the Gvt in place are picking up and trying to square back together the broken parts of the mirror that were left behind by not just the last Gvt, but the Gvts that were in place beforehand (Conservatives and socialists alike)... This will go on and on and on! and the worst thing about it is, is that Sarkozy has been keeping his gob shut since the new Gvt is in place, but there are rumours of him representing again for the next presidential elections when they come around.

So what i am trying to say in a nutshell :

No matter who is in place to govern your country, there will always be bits and pieces to pick up and more taxes to add because of the precedent Gvt.

Back to old Maurice now... He isn't a winner.... he's a winnit!

Kindest respects

Rodinus

I find it funny how the french are being called lazy in this. I don't think (or really have enough facts to truly state) that they truly are lazy. I think it's just jealousy. I guarantee that any worker here in the US that found an employer that allowed/promoted:

Being "paid high wages but works only three hours. They get one hour for breaks and lunch, talk for three and work for three,"

Would be ecstatic to find such a 'great job' with such a 'wonderful company' and brag about it to their friends. People forget that it's the employers who set the work standards and conditions.

i used to work 16 hours a day for 70 dollars each day doing construction cause the boss said when it comes to this kind of work you cant get anything done if you work less than that. no overtime, 7 days a week. i wanted to die. to be proud that you work more than 5 hours a day you have got to be retarded.

im fine being an economic slave, i just dont talk about it like its an achievement.

The real problem I see here is that people forget the American middle class is being ground into the dust because nobody is being our advocate. So as Americans move closer and closer to pauper status to take care of the mega rich 1% I have to wonder if we got it wrong and the European way was closer to the way things should be done.

Why European way? Look at the America of the 60s. It wasnt an America of low low taxes, money for everybody and little government intrustion. I wonder how that myth came about. In the 60s the wealthiest bracket payed up to 91% of tax. Income tax, corporate gain tax, I forgot.

Bottom line is, it was an America where somebody was looking at the big picture and at keeping the economy going. Today we have interest groups or even individuals wrestling for power to look after themselves no the country and whoever gets on top fleeces the economy at the expense of everybody else.

Everybody is asked to do a little bit more for a little bit less or somebody else gets that job, so there are very few people whom make more and more money which they do not spend, because a ferrari does not cost 100 Million and there are more and more people whom have less and less currency to put into the system and thats how the flow of money stutters and growth comes to a halt.

Not sure about that. I understood the Applemac is US, the Ipad and Iphone is made in China, with some parts made in the US. I could be wrong though.
Makes no difference to what Titan will be doing, the man said the jobs are going to India and China...which IS a communist state, not imaginary.

Our company once tried a french business contact (supplier) for a short time... once. They delivered late, unashamed and incorrect. They were rude and refused to communicate in German (understandably), English, or any language apart from French. Non merci.
Yep. I know many professionals who deal with them and they almost have almost same things to say about the french. However the work ethics is also intertwined to their laid back culture which is where they need to focus if their industrial sector wishes to remain competitive.

Not really, France could do well for itself, if it kicked out all immigrants and outlawed any form of immigration. That is the problem leftists make and why Europe is collapsing economically.

In a Communist state, you can't have any kind of immigration as that rocks the boat(even immigration of immigrants who add to society but do not take away from it, would be destructive).

In a Socialist state the only type of immigrant that such a system could take in without crashing it, would be self sufficient immigrants that have expertise knowledge. Even then though immigration should be highly limited.

Under fascism or state capitalism, immigration is also a no-go for any kind of lower class or middle class immigrant(but upper class immigrants would benefit that type of society).

Corporatism (private Capitalism), the system as a whole thrives on lower class immigration, but only for a short while as it dramatically reduces the quality of living and leads to revolution in the long view.

Libertarianism: Immigration doesn't matter as much and depending on resources available(land, food and water), and if a sufficient enough surplus exists enabled the influx of large numbers of immigrants.

Really, all one needs is food, water, shelter and clothing. Everything else is icing on the cake.
