Yesterday, U.S. congressmen Mike Rogers (R-MI) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) announced before the House that they are planning to revive the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protect Act (CISPA) and work closely with the White House to ensure its passage sometime later this year. The unpopular legislative attempt at ramping up cybersecurity regulations was tabled indefinitely last year in August after it was shot down in a Senate vote, but some had raised the possibility that it could've been delayed by the lawmakers to avoid having to make a decision right before the elections.
Remember the Internet blackouts over SOPA and PIPA last year?
Probably. What you might not remember is the other online legislation that nearly passed: the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. After being approved by the House of Representatives, the Senate failed to pass CISPA in 2012 after similar protests of Internet users everywhere.
But CISPA’s authors, Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Awesome Name), made good on a promise and announced Wednesday that the bill will be reintroduced in 2013.

I think we just have to start doing it on Mon, Wed and Fri every week until we die. They don't seem to get it any other way do they?

What doesn't kill the internet only makes it stronger.
The person to get on the internet's "side" is Hillary Clinton, who wants to be U.S president. Someone needs to get her both on the record opposing this and have her actively asking, or more accurately, demanding, that Democrats not vote for this.edit on 7-2-2013 by Aleister because: (no reason given)

The question is what would she do once in office? We saw Obama promise to close Gitmo and it's still there. He also said he didn't believe in the healthcare mandate (one of his biggest criticisms of Clinton in the 2008 primary) and the second he took office it was like "Just kidding, screw you America."
Sure, she could get on our side on this one but I wouldn't buy it.edit on 7-2-2013 by SilentKoala because: (no reason given)

To add to that here's the list of the Reps who vote for and against last year.

Also, other big companies like Microsoft, Google, EBay, Wikipedia, Britannica Online, News Outlets with internet portals, Facebook... etc.. (the list here can get very, very long...) may raise their collective eyebrows. They probably would not be too happy about it, IMO.

Just look at that list and the overwhelming American Republican support for CISPA. Anyone in the U.S. who cares for the internet should think twice (or three times) about calling themselves a Republican, and actively oppose them in local and national elections. The dislike of Obama is strong on some sectors of ATS, yet those same people who oppose Obama and his supporters will hopefully look at this issue - a direct frontal attack on the internet - and see that it's GOP leaders who overtly want to control as much of the free flow of information in the world as they can. Some elected Democratic leaders do also, but at least they are more likely to bend to the pressure of their supporters on this issue..
