Vladimir Konstantinovich Bukovsky, a leading dissident in the 1960s and 1970s in Russia describes how the EU and the Soviet Union share many characteristics.

In the Video, Bukovsky points out the similarities between the European Union and the Soviet Union

(1) Both run by unelected officials who are unaccountable to anyone.

(2) Unelected officials appoint each other, meet in secret and cannot be sacked by the people.

(3) Both Unions were based on the concept that such a union was necessary to avoid war between the states.

(4) In the USSR, Gulags were used to control those who disagreed. In the EU, political correctness is used to control people. Anyone who gives an opinion contrary to the 'accepted' wisdom is written off by the media and established political parties as mad, insane, violent and fascist.

(5) Thousands of highly paid officials lead luxurious lifestyles, separate from the masses, and are immune from prosecution.

(6) A new flag and anthem replaces nation states.

(7) The EU is being created by coercion and economic bullying.

(8) Both unions are corrupt and incapable of reform.

It is hard to disagree with the vast bulk of the above on an objective, factual basis.

It sounds good but a few points are a little off

(4) In the USSR, Gulags were used to control those who disagreed. In the EU, political correctness is used to control people. Anyone who gives an opinion contrary to the 'accepted' wisdom is written off by the media and established political parties as mad, insane, violent and fascist.

A gulag is in no way comparable to bad press and many who had to live through that would find that offensive, just sayin.

(8) Both unions are corrupt and incapable of reform.

I don't think the USSR is corrupt, it has been gone for some time now and was "reformed" so to say.
