Hello fellow ATsers,

In all of my 50+ years on this planet, I've never experienced, yet alone even heard of this happening. But driving home on the interstate out of Pittsburgh this past Tuesday, on a mostly clear but cold day, I noticed traffic gridlock a half mile or so ahead. Then I realized I should be able to see quite a bit further, except the visibility was diminished by a dark gray ominous-looking snow squall that seemed to appear out of the blue. After cussing out the weather men and women for their prediction of little chance of snow all day, I spent the next 90 minutes creeping along to the next exit to take a back road home. I fully expected to drive through chaos for the remaining 15 miles home, but a mile or so later, the roads were dry. This wasn't too strange since snow squalls and flurries are isolated, but after speaking with my brother and a friend, who live directly north and west of the area, I found out it never snowed all day. I didn't think much of it until I heard a local news report this morning claiming it was a man-made storm caused by the power plant located upwind of the traffic nightmare on the interstate. I'm just waiting for someone who was stuck in traffic with me to claim there was radioactive fallout in that snow.

Here is the link to the story. I know some of you out there are "arm-chair" meteorologists or wannabee storm-chasers like me and will find this interesting, so....enjoy:

Edit - sorry - here's another link to the story from another source:

Thanks you for posting this, as I have never heard of anything like that either. This happens every few years?? I can see how it must be like lake effect snow, but still that is just weird.

If you check out a map, they're very far apart. One is in the middle of the USA and one is on the east coast.

Here in Atl well north of Atl, we are to get sleeting snow, with raining ice from a 30 degree dip of our typical mid 40s evening weather. In the daytime the temperature has been hovering around mid 50s. I am wondering if this is part of the same weather storms that are leaving Arkansas which had radioactive particles

Is there a certain informative body of specialists that is measuring the nuclear particles as well as where exactly it is coming from? I would think there would be an alphabet societey if not a governing entity.
