Slave Labour in China Shocking Evidence

A Chinese labourer has hidden a note detailing his desperate circumstances inside a 'graveyard kit' from KMart.

Of all things a Halloween kit! Not an essential purchase item is it?

It was like a fortune cookie, only the news was all bad. Julie Keith opened her box of Halloween decorations only to find a letter from a Chinese labourer telling how he is tortured, beaten, and being paid less than $2 a month.

Imagine the sheer horror of opening the box for Halloween and finding this hand written note inside.

"People who work here (at the Mashanjia Labour Camp in Shenyang, China) have to work 15 hours a day without Saturday Sunday break and any holidays," the handwritten note says. "Otherwise they will suffer torturement, beat and rude remark, nearly no payment (10 yuan/1 month)."

It does not surprise me that people will go to drastic measures to be heard. Slave labour camps are wrong on all levels. A few weeks back there was an uproar on this very site about slave labour in the US prison system.

He is another real world example of person who is suffering under a communist dictatorship where labour is rewarded for little more than peanuts. What makes it even more shocking is the worker, gets beaten and punished for under performance.

The Chinese Government operates many forced-labour camps for criminals – but ‘criminals' can include political dissidents or ‘cult adherents' who follow specific religions and are imprisoned without trial. "People who work here suffer punishment… without court sentence… many of them are Falun Gong practitioners, who are totally innocent," the letter continues. Falun Gong is a spiritual practice and its members are often targeted by the Communist regime.

America is up the proverbial creek without paddles with high unemployment, obesity, depression and violence. Trade with China has caused this. When America was a manufacturing nation things were good. Along comes cheap Chinese products and well, you can see the results of that clearly today.

We must stop buying cheap Chinese imports manufactured by slaves. In buying these products not only does it devalue your own life, it is supporting slave labour camps. Purchasing these products does nothing to stimulate employment in your local region. Buy only local made products, if it is not local made do not buy it.

China's means are very reminiscent of slavery practices from the old US slavery ways.

In January a government survey of migrant workers indicated that the hukou (household registration) system continued to impose systemic discrimination on migrants. Survey respondents blamed the hukou system, which the government has repeatedly promised to abolish, for unfairly limiting their access to housing, medical services, and education. In August 2011 the Beijing city government ordered the closure of 24 illegal private schools that catered to migrant children. Most found alternate schools, although an estimated 10 to 20 percent had to be separated from their parents and sent to their hukou-linked rural hometowns due to their parents’ inability to secure suitable and affordable schooling in Beijing.

This is a different type of slavery though.... unless I'm mistaken, Slaves in old America did not offer wages. Regardless, it is what it is... and that is disgusting.

The weird thing is, no matter how bad anything gets with in another nations boarders, people will still maintain the stance that we must respect their sovereignty. Just look at Syria... What does it take to cross that line?

The solution is simple IMO.

Apply a tarif, something like...40% on anything that can't be proven to be fair trade produced. All imports. or just ban all imports that can be fair trade certified. Morality in commerce is something we lack.

The thing is that China is just as scrwed as the US is. NObody else buys it's cheap junk. They need us, but the truth is we don't need them.

Yet the overwhelming vast majority will still continue to purchase these products. With unemployment at an all time high and clearly no immediate solution to the problem, trade tarrifs would possibly cause a war. People need to just stop buying these products and create a demand for local manufacturing. Over time local jobs would replace the imports and the economy would get back in shape.

Slave labor continues worldwide in various forms. Some in form of child labor, forced prostitution etc. It's evident in Europe, the United States, China and a slew of other countries. It's still a big problem and one that doesn't get enough coverage in my opinion.
