Meh....if you are struggling, you can attribute anything to ancient Egypt...I however find little of comparison with them and ancient western
Europe...you know folks were actually living there before the rise of Egypt correct? You could then say everything comes from ancient Sumer as it was
around before Egypt.
The problem with the supposed origins of Halloween is the fact that there is no real written accounts from the people themselves. Most recorded
history comes from the Romans during their time in control of Gaul and Britannia. So, it's hard to say just how biased the Romans were in their
record keeping...let's be honest, the ability to write history goes to the victors.
For example:
The Druid celebrations of western Europe are cloaked in mystery. Why? Not because it was a profoundly secretive thing...it's because they didn't
have writing so no one actually knows beyond a shadow of a doubt what took place.
There is a story the all Hallows Eve was a day to gather "magic" mistletoe...the plant would be cut with a sickle and caught in a bowl. A bull would
be sacrificed and it's neck stuffed with the plants that they thought came from the heavens. (Lives in the tops of trees, is evergreen but has no
roots to the ground...= must be from the Gods).
Is this account correct? Maybe...maybe not. Nothing was written down so...who knows for sure.
Halloween is a fun time. I don't care what the "ancients" did...it's a time to laugh at old fears and superstitions and ghost/monster stories. Eat,
drink and be merry and don't ever take it too serious.
ETA...BTW...original "Jack o lanterns" were turnips, not pumpkins
