The carjacking, and the unnamed 'witness' is a cover up. Mockford has been involved in some dubious deals involving some very unsavory people. Mt nice guy was hiding a dirty secret and hired assassins took him out. The media blackout is there to protect someone else involved. Maybe it will come out, maybe not.
