With the election over, President Obama sat peacefully behind his desk in the Oval Office. It had been an easy victory, and he couldn't help but to feel a little pride in himself and his team of supporters. Things were going well. Once again, the election had been easy to fix.

It wasn't often that a sense of peace relaxed the President this much while sitting in his chair. His eyes grew heavy, and before long fell into a deep sleep. Within moments though, he was jolted awake by a loud thumping sound very near to him.

Quickly scanning the room, President Obama was aware of a haze that filled the room. It was almost as if a light fog had settled in around him. The chill in the air penetrated into the core of his body. Fear began coursing through his veins.

"Are you proud of yourself Mr. President?" a voice cried out through the mist.

Nearly knocking his chair over, President Obama sprung to his feet. "Who's there?" he asked with a quiver in his voice.

"All of us," was the response that filled the room. "Each of those that have come before you, and left our mark upon your office."

The mist began to coalesce into the ghostly forms of the Presidents past. The stench of death filled the room.

"Your pride has called us to your side. It is with great disappointment that we appear," came the voice of former President Lincoln. "You have done nothing but wear the mask of your masters, and we've come to remove it."

"The office of the President is not to be taken lightly. Your false pride shall be undone," stated George Washington. "Those who formed the position you hold are displeased, and the time has come to remedy this lose of respect for the highest office"

President Obama stared with amazement at the sight before him. No words were able to leave his lips. This simply could not be happening.

"There is a tradition for those who have held this office, and moved on. There is a time that the torch must be passed, and the next in line be recognized," said President Nixon with a smile upon his face.

From the corner of the room, former President Ford appeared in the mist, a small torch held in his hand. "I was the last, your are the next. This torched has passed between us all, and shall be passed again. It's flame shall burn until the office is no more, and the end of Our Land complete."

President Ford walked before the current holder of the Office of the President of the United States of America.

"Receive your inheritance Mr. President," was heard in unison from all the former Presidents.

Unknowing of what he was even doing, President Obama reached out and grasp the flaming torch from former President Ford. In an instant, the fog that had filled the room disappeared. Filled with confusion, President Obama shook his head and blinked. Looking around the room again, he realized that he was still seated in his chair behind his desk in the Oval Office. It all must have been a dream. The tightening of his chest and the pounding of his heart was barely noticed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sitting at the desk of the President of the United States of America, President Biden sat in shock. He still couldn't believe that he was now the sitting President. The coroner's report had just came into the office. It said that the former President, Barack Obama, had been the victim of a heart attack. The burn mark on his hand had been identified as a cigarette burn.

"At least he had one last smoke," President Biden said to an empty room.

I would have thought that the torch would have been passed by Bush. Other than that, cool story - it's odd, out of the box, and somewhat confusing.

But cool all the same! Keep writing!

The torch is passed from the last President that died to the next President to die...President Ford was the last President that died, so he was the one who passed the torch.

"There is a tradition for those who have held this office, and moved on. There is a time that the torch must be passed, and the next in line be recognized,"

Thanks for the read.

Ah. I did not realize that moved on meant died. I thought it was just a figure of speech. Thanks for the clarification

Good one, isyeye!

How like the arrogance of our current POTUS to accept the torch like it's another award (I'm thinking Nobel Peace Prize) only to find that it's not so nifty after all.
