It is not an "experimentally confirmed fact". A computer scientist is not a physicist, so a computer scientist musing about hypotheticals outside his field of expertise about life being a simulation or virtual reality is far, far FAR from fact. The word "fact" gets bandied around too liberally on these boards. Furthermore, none of this has anything to do with a god.

I thought the current trend in theoretical physics was to push to more information-theory centric models? Information theory is not really separable from computer science.

Black hole thermodynamics is what brought our attention to information content. Most physicsts use the term "bits" that are planck length^2. its actually a super interesting topic. Theres a book out called "the black hole war, making the world safe for quantum mechanics"

It details the quest to explain what happens to information as it falls into a black hole. the second law of theromdynamics is entropy of a closed system always increases. So if "bits" fall into a black hole, were does the inforamtion go? The entropy of the universe would be decreasing since entropy fell into a black hole. So there was a big fight cause if black holes radiate, they will eventually get smaller and smaller, hotter and hotter, till they go poof and gone. So if this were to happen, what happens to the info that was inside. this violates 2nd law. So there was all kind of work done with holographic principle, and alot of work by susskind and guys like T'hooft and the infamous hawking has brought us to were we are today.

Well it may sound that way at first, but not when you have the physics establishment coming to the same conclusion as well.
