i come to ATS to read about conspiracy theorys and storys about aliens.
i dont want to hear about things that will ruin my day.
yes i know i 'dont have to read the thread'. and i usually dont, but most thread titles leave little to the imagination.

if you feel the need to post such things on ats (you shouldn't, this really isn't the site). be discerning in your thread titles pls.

You cannot block some news and not allow other news! This is the world you live in, You cannot sugar coat everything in your own little fantasy world where every square inch of land is covered in chocolate buttons and rainbows with prince charming like characters dancing around skittle rivers....

This is the world you live in.

Deal with it, Everybody else has to!

P'S: It is exactly what ATS is for, ATS opens peoples eyes and allows them to see what the rest of the world ignores and the information many hide from.

Just curious about what makes you think it is not the site for these discussions? ATS is way WAY more than just conspiracies and aliens. Have you been to the Forums page? You can even get recipes from the cooking forum. Are you saying ATS should do away with 3/4 of their forums? I am just trying to understand where it is you are coming from.

Censor it just because you don't like it? That's a little unreasonable...

On one hand OP, I agree. Prior to taking a break while back there had been a couple threads on a guy who killed or tortured animals on the net for an audience. Nothing fake..it was the real thing alright. I could have done without seeing it and said so. They had their say...and I added mine. As we all have the right to do...eh?

The thing is... If you click forums up there on the top so the whole list comes up, ATS has a strong presence in the forums for Conspiracy topics, yet has as many or more spread across a variety of subjects that have little or nothing to do with Uncle Sam or things that sneak around in the night. A little bit of everything for everyone, as I see it there. Unfortunately, that sure does include some I would love to see....vanish.

....but then...I know as fact at least a few would like to see what I say, vanish. I'd like to see what some others say..vanish. Heck when it comes down to it, there are probably people here who come 100% for NON-conspiracy topics and could make a compelling argument in precisely the opposite direction from your own on ATS Reform. It takes all kinds, eh?

wel, i'd be happier if they did. i dont want cooking forum's, i'd go to a cooking website if i wanted that.
i know people report all kinds of pointless nonsense here(including me).
my main issue is with thread titles, if its vile, leave it in the the thread, dont put the story in the title so people have no choice but to read it.

or ATS could do away with the RANT section completely.

I can see that, unfortunately when posting in certain forums one is required to use the articles title. It then falls on the article writer as to what it is called. I do see what you are saying with the Family members exaggerating or making the titles graphic though.

But that makes no sense!

Bad stuff happens every day, you can't just ignore it.

If a thread is titled wrong i could end up meandering into a thread about a massacre of an entire town entitled "Whipped cream & Jelly castle party"

I agree with the OP as far as not being so graphic with the title. As far as cruelty to animals or anything else I dont want to know UNLESS I'm able to do something about it.

i was thinking that myself as the idea of titles came up. We don't want to obscure the titles, If anything, more descriptive would help. How much offensive content can someone pack into the space of a title line and in just text anyway? Well.. Okay..but we always have some mods on duty and lurking.

I'd thought, with credit to the OP here, about some way to flag the threads for graphic image or subject content but then..wow... who decides what is graphic or offensive and more importantly, who determines when something was but not properly flagged by someone who disagrees? Talk about a can of worms down that path. I don't see much for a solution here but personal responsibility and judgement in an environment where almost anything goes within the law and limits of Internet boundaries we all pretty much recognize.

After all.....Near or full frontal nudity isn't a big deal at all in many overseas nations, but considered pornographic here on a public site like this. We don't see much problem here with an image of someone being shot in the head. Heck. Americans see it in one form or another on a screen quite frequently, in fact. Who would choose? Hmm

Maybe a way of red flagging the more nasty (yet informative) threads so that they are easily recognizable would be in order, Like a content warning: warning before entering the thread

I dunno, I'm secure enough in myself to know how terrible the world can be and some of the more gruesome news doesn't surprise me, If i think it'll irritate me i just don't read it

There are certain subjects I just won't click on, you should try the same

My least favorite are the ones that promote censorship on ATS.

I cannot handle the threads about animal cruelty. The one about the cat today tore me up just to look at the title, so I didn't go to that thread.

I don't want to know about such ugliness and evil in the world....Unfortunately, that is the world we live in, and these creeps who do this need to be exposed. I don't want ATS censored when it comes to what people want to talk about. I can censor my own reading by choosing what to look at.

I leave it to the stronger of my ATS brethren to read and react appropriately to animal cruelty threads. I don't have the stomach for it.

I like all the different forums and subject matter on this site, including cooking. I cannot read about UFOs, aliens, government conspiracies, and world war three all the time, I'll go schizo.

Here's to that.

The first step to applying a solution is knowing the problem whether or not we'd like to admit the problem exists

I couldn't be bothered to click on that cat thread that was floating around earlier. That stuff is just depressing and I don't find any interest in it. There are certain cruel subjects that as ugly as they are deserve attention but the animal cruelty threads is not what I'm into. I still respect the author's right to post it as long as it doesn't violate any terms and conditions though.

I'm not trying to promote any kind of censorship.
Just hoping that people would word their thread title's more sensitively.
like a polite person would do.

I think you're being perfectly reasonable and the clarification helps to hear that you weren't even thinking about enforced standards or enforced content. Someone would need to do the enforcing and that is where my main problem comes in. No one in their right mind would want ME with the red button and I sure don't trust anyone else.

I sure can't argue the call you are making for some personal discretion and self-control entirely from within the people opening a new thread though. It sounds just like what I and others said about personal responsibility for what is clicked at all. It's perfectly fair to say that should carry to both sides of the equation.

Those animal cruelty threads are pretty emotional.
I try not to view the videos....or the pictures.

I think the problem is that they keep getting put in the wrong forums.
They really aren't about a conspiracy...so they don't belong here:

Other Current Events: This forum is for the discussion of contemporary world events, with a general focus on conspiracies and/or cover-ups that may not easily fit into other topical forums. Discussion topics and follow-up responses in this forum will likely tend to lean in favor of conspiracies, scandals, and cover-ups. Members who would seek to refute such theories should be mindful of AboveTopSecret.com's tradition of focusing on conspiracy theory, cover-ups, and scandals.

Looking through the forums...the seem to best fit in either Chit Chat or Rant.

General Chit Chat: Talk About Anything Really. A Place To Make Posts Of An Unrelated Nature]

Rant: Let loose some steam and get it off your chest! This is the place to rant about anything that does not attack other members, the staff, or ATS itself.
