I stumbeled upon this website with satellite imagery and wanted to know, why in the infrared view some clouds are white and others are dark. Is it the difference in height or volume of the clouds ?

Since they'red infrared, it should be based on temperature... So the higher, colder clouds will be lighter in color and lower layers will be warmer and darker.

Thanks, sounds plausible. I ask, because i often ride bicycle and want to know how to predict rain. Do lower, warmer clouds rain more than higher, colder ones ?
