source militarytimes.com...

and gsaauctions.gov...

Up for auction on May 4. Problem is you must scrap it. I wonder if they will accept my definition of 'scrap'.

They could not find a museum to accept it. I wonder if they will accept my definition of 'museum'.

There has to be a way!

they are selling a boat for 10k but you have to agree to destroy it?

sounds like a bad deal any way you look at it

wonder who the retard that buys it [lol if anybody even bids] is gonna be

unless the idea is that the eventual "buyer" will not be scrapping it
and is getting a 164 foot experimental Sea Shadow stealth boat

for a steal

considering salvage costs and the price of scrap steel and other goodies that may be inside, @ 4558 tonnes

starting bid of $10K is really cheap. I think it will sell for around $100K by the time the auction concludes.

you'll get more than 30k back from the scrap easy. It's a 164ft navy boat, which means it's armored.

You can't buy it for 10k, the bid starts at 10k, it's an auction.

true,
but i still think it's a bad deal
and shenanigans involved.

whenever you see the military or politicians doing stupid/crazy/illogical stuff like this
you can be sure there is a reason
of course, you have to be a greedhead or psychopath to get it

think about it,
why doesn't the navy scrap it itself, and make a small profit?
nope the more i think about it the ship is a BIIIG distraction,
something inside, or a particular part/component [softyware on the computers?] is the real steal here

Current bid is 100,420 USD

The old EX-HUGHES MINING BARGE would be nice for a floating work shop dry dock in Alaska.
and the Diesel; Electric Propulsion System from the sea shadow could be used to turn it into a self propelled dry-dock.

Oh by the way the GSA site has a bug or malware as it locked up my computer twice and i had to use alt+ctrl+del to kill firefox to unlock my computer

Yeah if the drydock comes with it and you don't have to scrap that it'd be a hell of a deal ffor some lucky waterfront property owner. Talk about sweat equity on property values.... having your own drydock would have all sorts of uses I bet.

Greetings:

You got that right.

Like to have that barge.

BTW, aside from a mountain of tracking cookies, we did not find malware, but that really doesn't mean anything. We are simple mountain folk and that is USGOV.

My Mac firewall readout lit up like Christmas tree, but (thankfully) nothing got through and no problema.

Wintel machines may experience a problem, though...beware.
