A robot that can be controlled by the brainwaves of a paraplegic person wearing an electrode-fitted cap has been unveiled.

A paralysed man at a hospital in the Swiss town of Sion demonstrated the device, sending a mental command to a computer in his room, which transmitted it to another computer that moved a small robot 37 miles away in Lausanne.

The same technology can be used to drive a wheelchair, Millan said.

But the technology has its limits, he added. The brain signals can be scrambled if too many people are gathered around a wheelchair, for example.

Eventually, researchers say they hope to create mechanised prosthetics that are as mobile and sensitive as a natural hand, Lacour said.

This could make a huge difference to people who are disabled.

Possible Future Technology for UAV pilots; And that's just one application of this technology. Driving your car, shopping trolley, wheelchair (in the article), etc

Now all they need to do is get rid of the helmet, and insert a chip into your cranium with antenae attached (or 3g - wi-fi it) ;-P

My skin not yours ;-P

Rather a chip than a helmet.I for one don't want to walk around all day looking like a douche. Maybe if they put it in a baseball cap or something?

How long do y'all think it takes before the military uses this to drive a machine gun into a sleeping village and massacre everyone, then bring the robot back and act like they were never there?
