(CNN) -- Two Coast Guard members have been shot dead on an island off Alaska's coast, prompting the lockdown Thursday of their base and at least one nearby school.
The Coast Guard offered few immediate details Thursday afternoon as to how, when or why two of its own were killed. Capt. Jesse Moore did acknowledge, though, "It is possible the suspect remains at large."
(CNN) -- An apparent domestic dispute left three people dead at a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant near Cleveland on Thursday, according to Ohio police.
The shootings took place after police received a 911 call from a woman at the restaurant in Brooklyn, Ohio, that "she had just informed her husband that she was leaving him and he wasn't taking it well," Police Chief Scott Mielke said.
The woman told police that her husband was in a car circling the eatery.
(CNN) -- A police chief from southeastern New Hampshire who planned to retire in a few days has been shot to death while trying to execute a search warrant, authorities said Friday.
Chief Michael Maloney of the police department in Greenland, a town of about 3,500, was killed in a shooting that wounded four other officers on Thursday night at a home in the community, said Attorney General Michael Delaney.
"This is a tragedy for our community," he said. "Our law enforcement community is in mourning."
Two suspects, a man and a woman, were found dead in the home after a long stand off, Delaney said. Investigators believe the deaths came from either a "murder-suicide" or a "double suicide," he said.

STOCKTON - Tuesday's anti-police brutality protest in downtown Stockton forced the city's Police Department to essentially declare a state of emergency and cost taxpayers $12,000 in police overtime wages.
For the first time in more than 15 years, police declared a "condition red" - meaning any call that wasn't an in-progress act of violence or life-threatening emergency went unanswered.
He resisted officers, who struck him with batons after he refused verbal commands and physical force, police said.
At some point during the seven- to 10-minute car ride to the hospital, Cooke grew quiet, Smith said, but the prolonged silence didn't alarm the two officers taking him to the hospital.
Police identified the five officers involved in the incident as Jeremy Edens, Kevin Hess, Gabriel Guerrero, James Manor and Irshad Mohammed. Authorities did not disclose which two drove Cooke to the hospital, and all five have been placed on a standard three-day administrative leave.
