What must a city have to be the ideal place to live in for you?

Do you have any idea?

Abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, as in lakes, mountains or beach for fishing, hiking, biking, and rockhounding
Low crime rate
Farmer's markets
Low pollution
Good water
Affordable housing costs
Climate, not too extreme in either direction
Kind folks
Decent job market
Good schools
Mixed age groups
A green attitude, as in conservation and recycling

Eugene, Oregon suited me just fine

Although now I live in the sticks for utmost peace and quiet, but that's just me

I was going to make my own reply, but speculativeoptimist just hit it dead on for me. He even add some things I didn't think of but sound really nice to have! Good post to you sir.

There is already a "worlds most livable city" ranking...

The world's most liveable cities is an informal name given to any list of cities as they rank on a reputable annual survey of living conditions. Two examples are the Mercer Quality of Living Survey and The Economist's World's Most Livable Cities (using data from Mercer as well).

The wikipedia entry mentions some of the criteria that they use.
Here's a link to the Mercer site, where they mention these things somewhere as well.

As far as Mercer is concerned... Vienna, Austria
As far as The Economist is concerned... Melbourne Australia

I always look for the four B's:

Beach
Babes
Boats
Bikes

And I kind of like to stay in the tropics.

Good bars, good food, hookers, a street named after me, hot female dominating ratio at least 5/1, law enforcement that aren't dicks, and close enough to the beach where you can go all the time, but not close enough to get washed away by a tsunami.... Where is that? You tell me, ill pack my s*** and leave now...

Good schools

Good recreation

Affordable housing

Nice people

Rural in nature, ie a lot of trees and not too much asphalt.

I'm a simple man and easy to please. That will do it for me.
