Cheers for the helpful posts everyone, much appreciated.

It was a sight to see that's for sure. It had a very slight orange/red tinge and shone just like the Anzac symbol lol...

The twinkling effect is caused by Earths atmosphere...

Just compare it to the waves of heat rising from a road surface as you look down it...
