Texas Congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul polls strongest against US President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup of the current crop of Republican hopefuls.

The NBC-Marist survey, conducted between November 27-29, shows Paul ties with Obama, 42-42. Current front runner Newt Gingrich loses to the president 47-37; Mitt Romney, who until recently was leading most polls, is also defeated, 46-39.

The survey shows that Paul has support outside of the GOP, which any Republican will need to score a victory in November next year. The political perspectives of those polled was almost evenly distributed, with 36-percent claiming Democrat, 35-percent Independent, and 28-percent Republican party affiliation.

Ron Paul is pulling in independents and blue republicans.. something no other GOP candidate can boast... Ron Paul is the only choice PERIOD if we are going to beat Obama.. Im sure if it was Newt Ginrich winning this Poll it would be spattered all over the MSM news... Thank god for the internet and sites like ATS!

Now, if the GOP and MSM will just take notice, maybe he has a shot at the nomination?

Paul supporters have said all along that his toughest fight would be getting his own party's support. He can beat Obama, but can he beat TPTB in the GOP? That is the question.

We gotta keep pushing!

but do we need to "beat" the msm? the reality is the MSM is a dying dinosaur... they are all running in the red due to the fact that people are moving to alternative media ... we dont need to get the MSM to accept Ron Paul for him to win the presidency.. we are the ones that vote... not the msm
and we are definitely winning... the message is coming accross via media buys.. mailers and phone calls.. no other candidate comes even close to our grassroots effort....

I hope you're right!! Obama had both in 2008. He was a media darling, and had a huge grassroots movement with Twitter, FB, Obama Girl, etc.

Ron Paul needs it all to defeat Obama. He's getting there fast though. He has a TON of momentum at the moment.

OP and MSM will just take notice

I don't see that happening any time soon. Paul is against everything they stand for. If Paul keeps polling high, then the MSM and GOP will have no alternative but to recognize. But not for awhile yet.

He is indeed doing good in the polls. This one shows he has a good chance to take Iowa www.businessinsider.com...

Perfect! So maybe Ron's chances of running in the elections won't seem so dim, for now at least. But kudos to man. Keep it up Ron "Patriot" Paul!

Totally agreed, we gotta campaign hard for Ron in our own locations, the energy and effort put into full use by all of Ron's supporters can and IS doing tons of damage gaining great ground in the election. Now we just need to get the majority of delegates in the national convention.

Ron vs Obama would be easy...he would win by 10%.
