Ha, I hear ya mate.

Every time I bring up some sort of conversation about anything like that, my girlfriend just looks at me with a cheeky grin and says "Oh, did you read that on your alien website?"

Dont bother anymore.
She is a Dr and is very stressed and doesn't have much time for other crap so I don't blame her.

Haha

To quote McWiki:

The aim of the demonstration is to begin a sustained occupation of Wall Street, the financial district of New York City, to protest perceived corporate greed and social inequality, including opposing corporate influence in U.S. politics, the influence of money and corporations on democracy[7] and a lack of legal and political repercussions for the global financial crisis.

The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian world government—which replaces sovereign nation-states—and an all-encompassing propaganda that ideologizes its establishment as the culmination of history's progress.

Hope this helps.

I think that understanding this kind of stuff requires kind of a moment of clarity. I am still trying to wrap my head around all this stuff even after several years. The process isn't made any easier by the overwhelming amount of false and twisted info available. Maybe instead of trying to convince her of your beliefs, you ask her to explain her beliefs of these topics to you. If she is unable to, you should suggest she do a little more research so that she can actually understand what it is that she believes.

Heres the list of demands that anonymous has released in regards to ocw

1. INVESTIGATE, ARREST AND TRY THE WALL STREET CRIMINALS who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis in the following notable cases: (insert list of the most clear cut criminal actions). There is a pretty broad consensus that there is a clear group of people who got away with millions / billions illegally and haven't been brought to justice.

2. CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections and no disclosure is required about who's giving to who. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contribute to political campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media.

3. ACTION ON GLASS-STEAGALL en.wikipedia.org...–Steagall_Act --- Wiki entry summary: The repeal of provisions of the Glass–Steagall Act of 1933 by the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act effectively removed the separation that previously existed between investment banking which issued securities and commercial banks which accepted deposits. The deregulation also removed conflict of interest prohibitions between investment bankers serving as officers of commercial banks.

4. CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE & CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES INCLUDING PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If you really had a good negotiating position and had the place surrounded, you could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher.

5. CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION AND STAFF IT AT HIGHEST AND LOWEST LEVELS WITH PROFESSIONALS WHO GET THE JOB DONE PROTECTING THE INTEGRITY OF THE MARKET THEREBY PROTECTING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND INVESTORS. Also, this agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded.

6. RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON. The same should extend to other media.

7. CONGRESS ENACT SPECIFIC LAWS THAT EFFECTIVELY BUILD A WALL BETWEEN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY AND THE U.S. MILITARY. If we're going after corruption and also trying to reduce all the unnecessary wars that are costly in so many ways (most importantly costly in terms of human life on both sides), then this is the GRANDDADDY OF ALL REFORMS. Any of you who have seen the award winning widely popular documentary "Why We Fight" will realize the HUGE impact of this. Here's a snippet of Eisenhower's brave speech.

I think theres 22 in all just type occupy wall street list of demands

Whats lost in all the hype is that these are very valid demands, and will make a world of difference if acted upon.

Which, like everything they've said so far sounds good in principle but is woefully lacking in any detail whatsoever.
- Which people, specifically? You have to name them. Different people would be accused of different crimes. Its not likely that every single "wall street criminal" is guilty of exactly the same crimes as all the others.
So they have to be named, and accused of specific breaches of law.
Or do we just lock up EVERYONE who might be guilty and slowly work through them one at a time until they get their day in court?
- Which is the second point. Which laws? Be specific. Cite them.
- Who investigates? Federal or state? The existing LEO's or is there to be a new investigative comittee? If so, what are its powers? Who leads it?
- What about the "wall street criminals" who only started working after 2008? If they're doing the same thing, do they NOT get investigated? Seems so, the statement only refers to the 2008 crisis.
- And how far back do you go? Is someone who retired in 2004 to be investigated as well, since they "helped".
Or people who only worked at Wall Street for a few months? They "helped" to a small degree.
- And what about the "criminals" who dont work in Wall Street but work elsewhere? Or overseas? Do they get away scott free?

All these and more need to be decided, otherwise its just a bunch of empty accusations and rhetoric that wont get anywhere.

What, EXACTLY do they stand for?

These are very Valid demands accept for one thing. "Occupy the world insists on Rebuilding democracy", when we need to destroy it. Democracy is Great Britians Rule and what we fought to get away from. We the United States are a Constitution Republic. The Constitution does not allow democracy rule and the 51% controls the 49% slavery idea... We NEED to Restore the Republic to be successful...
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We the United States are a REPUBLIC, NOT a democracy!

So in other words the "occupy" movement is an ill-conceived mad-as-hell agenda that allows disgruntled liberals a place to blow off steam?

Why is it so focused on the legal and political aspects of the Wall Street bailout? The free-market outcome of something like the financial crisis is that the guilty parties GO BROKE. The government should have let them lie in their graves-- but it didn't-- and that is the core of the problem.

Its not rhetoric, its actually very clear who is committing criminal acts out of wall streets ranks. The sec consistently burns records of alleged frauds, and malfeasance covering the asses of the financial power institutions at every turn. We the people need access to SEC records before they are burned. We also have whistle blower's step forward weekly to inform the masses of the trash that passes for financial governance of the markets, and no one in law enforcement is doing anything because either congress or bullets shuts them up. You really should take a stroll over to Ats's own financial section before you call any of this rhetoric, and learn about the subject at hand before commenting.

I think you will find a good starting point here www.abovetopsecret.com...

The "occupy movement" is exactly what you would expect out of the average human.

There is no unified cause for the "occupation" - people are simply upset with the way things are going and listening to the loudest voice with a pointing finger.

To be blunt - 90% of the blame for what wrecked our economy rests in the policies that have been slowly implemented, supported, and expanded over the past 30 years within our government. You will find very little knowledge of this within the "occupy" crowd.

General blame falls on corporate banks and share-trading - neither of which have anything to do with Federal Reserve policy... and very little impact on corporate policies, at large (share traders on wall-street are so transient in their ownership of stock that they really don't hold much power in share-holder meetings - unless there are rumors that big decisions are on the table at the next meeting of a powerful company - which could cause its market value for the shares to go up despite little change in the company's net worth).

Anyway. What it boils down to is most people are very simplistic and possess very limited knowledge of the problem - but are justifiably upset over how things have gone.

The problem is that many are simply being manipulated by the 'puppet masters' who wish to push their own social agenda rather than fix the actual problem (some of them may actually believe their agenda will fix the problem... but most of the time it's just a quest for power).

Since the average person now has a target to vent their frustrations at, no further knowledge of the situation is necessary or desired.

Others, like those on this site - like to feel enlightened. Thus - anyone that has anything negative to say about any large financial or social institution gets instant credibility - the more zany the idea, the more unique and individual that person feels for believing in it. Basically - anything that goes against the conventional norm is positively received on the basis of: "I am -NOT- a sheeple!"

It reminds me of how all the goth kids in school dressed alike to express their individuality.

It will end up being another ordeal where socialists peddle their ideas before people with none of their own. More of them will get put into positions of power - which will wreak further havoc upon our economy.

Tends to be the cycle of things.

It is a communist movement employing millions of dumb people as useful idiots in an effort to create even more misery and havoc so that they can take power and implement communism in your neighborhood.

Communists leading useful idiots is un-American.

I'm feeling a bit lazy ATM, but you can google Occupy Wall Streets declaration of wants/demands.
Really they are on the cusp of understanding what they are out there for. Not all of them know why, but they feel they need to be. No one has out right said he we are protesting this corrupt country and that are mainly against the banks, but they are really out there because it's just time for a total makeover. The government is spending our money on wars we don't support and they are owned by the banks. That's why they are out there. I think they have to be a little frightened and haven't been as vocal about the true nature of the protests because when it comes out that they aren't satiated with just the banks answering but want the government it will become a little more real for them. They know where it's heading though.

Ok, much better.
A clear and specific demand. A goal that can be measured as to its achievement (or not).

That, however, isnt in the Wall Street protester's statement.
