Friedrich August Hayek CH (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈaʊ̯gʊst ˈhaɪ̯ɛk]) (8 May 1899 – 23 March 1992), born in Austria-Hungary as Friedrich August von Hayek, was an economist and philosopher best known for his defense of classical liberalism and free-market capitalism against socialist and collectivist thought. He is considered to be one of the most important economists and political philosophers of the twentieth century, winning the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1974. Along with his mentor Ludwig von Mises, he was an important contributor to the Austrian s

I just watched this on MSNBC but it confirmed me just how hyporcrital and the rich are when it comes to their own agenda. They wanted to hire a famous Austruan econmics proffessor in the 1970's that was totally against medicare medicade, any social prgrams etc... because he believed it was an opening to socialism and communism. The Austrian proffessor (Keyens) didn't want to come over to the US because he was affraid of losing his medicare that he was receiving in Austria (even tho he was TOTALLY against it). Yet the Koch brothers told him that he would be covered in the US by the very social programs they wanted this econmic professor to bring down . If that isn't the definition of a complete oxymoronic and evil agenda of just one thing Koch did I'm at a loss of words. This person needs to go away....

I don't really get the opening post either.

If it means anything, Keynes and Hayek defined the two spectrums of economics in how to recover from the Great Depression. Hayek advocated for neo-liberal style free-trade capitalism while Keynes was more conservative in his economic philosophy of build up your country during peace time and save during hard times.

Keynes never advocated anything like that.... read general theory, Keynes was like a lite-version of Mussolini. Hayek is the good guy here....

Um, studying Keynes and Hayek has been a requirement in a few of my political courses. Keynes was more or less a socialist and it was his policies that allied countries adopted to recover their economies. I've even seen documentaries on this.

I'm telling ya, Hayek advocated neo-conservative government with neo-liberal economic policies; in essence, the path that the US has taken in recent decades.

PS: Is your ava that chick from BECK? That was a good anime

Fascist, if you read his general theory and study how the Italian economy worked under Mussolini you won't be able to deny it.

and it was his policies that allied countries adopted to recover their economies. I've even seen documentaries on this.

Correction: It was his policies that prolonged the great depression.

Have you ever read anything by Hayek?

It doesn't seem like it, it doesn't seem like you have read Keynes much either. Keynes advocated massive wars, bailouts, monetary/fiscal stimulus and showering money to wall street, not Hayek....

PS: Is your ava that chick from BECK? That was a good anime

Indeed, BECK is one of my favorite animes.

Look, I'm not studying economics, I study politics.

When we hear the description "Keyneseist", it means throw money around during peacetime and during a strong economy so you don't end up with no funds during a crisis.

When we hear "Von Hayekian" it usually refers to neo-liberal economics that coexist with aggressive foreign policy; in other words, imperialism (which is finance capital).

I guess the argument could be made that Keynesiest economics is more along the lines of a conservative fascism while Von Hayekian policies are liberal fascism (according to what I've been taught anyways).

What part of the world are you from? Maybe the perception on these two differ between social outlooks.

Who taught you this stuff? It's all wrong, I've read almost every Hayek book and he has never advocated any of the nonsense you claim. Can you me show where Hayek or any other Austrian economist has advocated for an ``aggressive foreign policy``?

You're misunderstanding me. What I am trained is to know the fundamentals of modern geopoliticals, and I am trained to know that neo-conservatives who carry out neo-liberal global reform through aggressive policy (specifically Washington and now Ottawa) is based off of Von Hayekian fundamentals. I am also trained to know that a country that strategically regulates its spending is following Keyne's example.

I've never read much about what Von Hayek or Keynes originally had to say, simply because I don't care much about economics.

Therein lies the problem.

Yes please head over to the site for the Von Mises institute and you will get a good dose of what they really advocated. Its not "neo-liberalism" it is if anything classic liberalism in otherwords Jeffersonian.
