Hi everyone
I first discovered this site a number of years ago when I was trying to make sense of an experience I once had which I'll go into detail on in a
minute. I remember feeling like I'd struck gold as I found other experiences similar to my own which made me feel like I wasn't crazy and I had saw
something that was truly unexplainable. However.... cue my old computer getting virused and binned (along with the bookmark!), moving house, moving to
university, jobs etc I confess I forgot all about this great website. That is until I found it again a couple of months ago, entirely by accident
Since then I've been a serial lurker on my coffee and lunch breaks and I'll admit that even though I was going to become a member anyway, I might have
only done it this evening as another way to avoid writing my thesis for Uni
Anyway, the experience...
When I was about 11, my father and I were standing in our garden one evening looking at constellations. I think from memory we both noticed a really
bright star high up in the sky and slightly to the right of us at the same time. Then I remember my dad saying no it must be a plane because it's
moving. (I should mention we live on the flight path of an airport and are very used to seeing aircraft and even know their flight paths). Then
immediately after, as he stared at it further, he said sounding puzzled, "But it's too slow to be a plane so it must be a helicopter." At this point
the starlike object stopped moving opposite us. We both continued to watch it. I remember thinking, but if it's so bright it must mean the helicopter
is really near so why can't we hear it hovering?
Just as my dad said that we must have imagined it moving, it suddenly shot off horizontally and to our left across the sky and was out of sight
within seconds, far far quicker than any plane we had ever saw before and we have both saw military jets at above the speed of sound fly above us.
The experience shocked both of us and we haven't talked about it in a long time but I am glad that he was a witness that night too to something that I
can't explain.
So, thank you for reading and I hope I'll make a (hopefully) valuable contribution to ATS
