The Washington Times reports:

Liberal firebrand Michael Moore called on President Obama to respond to the U.S. credit downgrade by arresting the leaders of the credit-ratings agencies.

On his Twitter feed Monday, the Oscar-winning film director also blamed the 2008 economic collapse on Standard & Poor’s — apparently because it and other credit-ratings agencies did not downgrade mortgage-based bonds, which encouraged the housing bubble and let it spread throughout the economy.

“Pres Obama, show some guts & arrest the CEO of Standard & Poors. These criminals brought down the economy in 2008& now they will do it again,” Mr. Moore wrote.

I have to wonder what kind of crack Moore is smoking. Asking the same person who signed off on hundreds of billions in “stimulus” to arrest the people who are pointing out the economic disaster that results from such policies seems a bit strange even for Moore. Isn’t Moore aware that Goldman Sachs was Obama’s second largest corporate donor and that Obama took in $3,602,317 from 5 major commercial banks during his last election campaign?

Does the guy actually blame credit rating agencies for an economic disaster caused by artificially low interest rates, federally imposed moral hazards, credit expansion, rampant speculation fueled by monetary policy, and crony capitalist regulations?

Last time I checked, all Standard & Poor can do is either point out problems or ignore them. They can’t actually cause them to come into existence in the first place. Moore does have a point that the credit rating agencies helped to facilitate the housing Ponzi by ignoring the obvious problems in the mortgage markets, but demanding they be arrested for finally pointing out the current fiscal insanity of our government strikes me as something we should expect to see from a Banana Republic, not a first world “economically free” nation. Arresting those who are the bearers of bad news is typical fare for communist dictatorships.

To me, S & P’s recent downgrade of the US sovereign debt from AAA to AA+ is facilitating fraud in the same manner as they did in the housing bubble. If S & P executives are to be arrested for helping to facilitate fraud, it should not be because they took the US down one notch, but because they haven’t taken it down far enough!

Any nation that owes the equivalent of 100% of its GDP is bound to default. Of course, the US is faaaaaaaaaaaar more in the hole than just 14 trillion if we include all the unfunded liabilities that are held off the books. Depending on how one calculates unfunded future liabilities, such as Medicare and Socialist Security, the US debt exceeds 100 trillion.

The US treasury markets are in the world’s biggest bubble and have been for some time. The dollar itself is in a bubble that has been busily inflating itself since Roosevelt confiscated American citizens’ gold and forbid dollar redemptions in gold specie. This act allowed the federal government to issue more debt than they had in gold reserves, which in effect was a default on our debts since creditors were paid back with money that had less value than they lent.

As the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet expands with Treasury debt, this too is an act of default. This is nothing more than printing money. Government’s don’t default by declaring bankruptcy, they default by devaluing their currency – which the US is in the midst of doing right now. The AA+ rating is a joke, the US should have a “C” credit rating as of this moment.

Michael Moore should stop blaming the messenger for the message and start blaming the people who put the US in to this fiscal position in the first place.

DARN credit ratings agencies didn't do their jobs in 2008 -- ARREST THEM!
DARN credit ratings agencies want to do their jobs in 2011 -- ARREST THEM!

I tell you, it's a blatant conspiracy against the Democrats...

PSST - quit smoking weed, Michael.

It's a sad day when "tweets" from hollywood make it into the news....

For a very short time(about 20 seconds), I've been giving credit ratings to countries.

I've just downgraded the USA from AAA to AA+

Do I get arrested also?

WOW Michael Moore! What FASCIST Neo-NAZI thing to suggest!!!

Then again, the lines between the extreme liberals, neo-conservatives and fascists have been blurred to the point near obscurity.

Moore is just reading from his cue cards. Anybody who can make a movie about 9/11 and not realize it was an inside job is either a moron or a government agent. I'm going to say Moore is both.

Or back to the rock he has been under.

Does anyone really pay any attention to him anymore?

Oh wait, it makes sense now. He is pining for some attention, so he speaks.

Every single reply I've read is unbelievable. I agree with Michael moore 100%. We should get rid of all these people in office that do not truly represent the people and have led us into a ditch, out of office immediately! Violence is our best tool against our government and should have been used already. I personally would LOVE to go up to Larry Summers and put a bullet between his eyes but I'm sure we all know it's not that simple. I hate that all the revolutions and great wars that took place long ago still apply today. That today we have a government institution that taxes the poor and not the rich is clearly a red flag for all those sitting on the sidelines to raise up to arms and fight back! The only thing stopping us is the cops/army. If only the government didn't pay them a peanut or two more than the average american maybe their loyalty would be to the people; but in such economically hard times, when they all have families and priorities, their concerns about the people falter. Thus promoting a society in which rich pricks make laws in their favor, and hide behind their payed off employees. We need to spark a riot here in the U.S ASAP!!!!!! I'd like to be the one to start it but with not enough followers or true believers that would be willing to sacrifice upon the altar of freedom yet again, its more of a slow process. Yet know you have a die hard ATS member that supports FULLY the road to liberation and reform sadly again as many generations from the past have done. I'm not gonna be that guy that stood by and did nothing when crooked ass people we already know are in power, took all from the people so their wallets could get fatter. NO WAY!!!!!
I just wished more people cared. cause in the end the only people that can stop it, are the ones that allowed it in the first place.

Is that what Moore said?

Sounds like Moore just asked the politicians who led us into a ditch to go out and arrest some guy who didnt play along with the "everything is alright" lie those politicians have been feeding us for 50+ years.

You agree with that? Everyone should be supporting the lie or face arrest?

Except the fact that he is not calling for Politicians to be ousted, at least not his friends.
He is calling for the arrest of the people at the credit agencies.
A buffoon to say the least.

I see your point and agree with the problem, that all politcians need to be removed not just the credit rating bastards. Lol But at least he's speaking out on more of doing and not just talking about the problem. And yes, i find it a bit contradictory that michael moore would ask Obama to remove his pals Effin up the U.S but at the least I'm grateful to hear someone promoting violenece against the (in the words of George w. Bush) "Evildoers"

Stalin also waged a war on the wealthy (royalty), and built death camps for the millions of people he would arrest and exterminate in the name of class warfare. Stalin killed far more people than any other nation.
