It really depends on how much the money will buy doesn't it?

What happens when the minimum wage jobs yeid 250,000$ a year and the porest of us are paying Obama's top tier tax rate and can't pay for a 300 sq ft apartment without 3 roomates

For the super rich its mostly a means of keeping score. How much they need is irrelevant because they want 'more'. More than the other guy. For the most part people are rich due to a very high competitive drive.

They want to beat you, and the man next to you. The money is simply a way to track how thoroughly they are beating you.

People need very little but society is driven by want not need.
