Because there are some who claimed that america is a christian nation.
This is important, since there was a period when racial slavery is practiced in the United States.

If it is a sin, do you think there will be implication spiritualwise for such transgression in the future? Should america seek redemption? Or have america redeemed herself? Your opinion?

Remember, if it's a sin now it's also a sin in the past, unless of course you believe in moral relativism.

Actually it wasn't just racial slavery. Slavery existed in many different facet's. In the South, African America enslavement and general Indentured servitude. In the West was a "koolio"(I think that is the term) system of enslavement that Chinese American's where enslaved under. And in the South West their was a system called "Peonage". It is nearly identical to the modern child support/Vaginomy system(it was also used for general debts. Imagine if you lost your job and fell behind on a bill. And then you where placed under arrest for oweing money. You where kept in jail till someone paid it off, but then you became an indentured servant to the person who paid it off).

And slavery has re-emerged in America in the Vagimony system. Heck look at the African American community today. More African American males are in slavery today then before the Civil War. Instead of outright slavery they are using a peonage system(Which is also outlawed under the 13th Amendment).

But if you want to talk about reparations, how about reparations for the descendants of German American's who made up the Bulk of the Union Army and enlisted to end slavery(even though German American's had absolutely nothing to do with slavery, many of the few German American's who migrated to the South where lynched before, during and After the Civil War because they spoke out against Slavery).

And then 50 years later when the Anglo/Scott-Irish American's healed from the Civil War began the whole sale genocide of the German American community because we opposed slavery(look at how most of those against German American's where also in love with the KKK in the early 1900's). While my ancestors where being persecuted what did African American's do? Well the few that lived near by JOINED IN the anti-German American Lynch mob's.

My ancestors where being denied employment and faced lynch mob's because of their race long before the first African American stepped foot on these shores. And the persecution still continues.

So let's talk about sin and who owes who!

The Christian bible is full of sin and contradiction, so are all other religions. In otherwords it is impossible to live a life without sin while following the word of your chosen religion. In my opinion, organized religion itself is a sin and the root cause of most pain and suffering on this earth. One of the few lessons in the bible I truly try to live by is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". If everyone on earth followed that advice and got past the blind grip of organized religion, our world would be a much better place. And yes, slavery is wrong no matter what your beliefs.

Maybe that is the test? To see how truly moral we are. Because according to the Bible, before the fall humanity was pretty wicked. And look at Abraham and how he was told to sacrifice his son. Not a very good test because human beings where sacrificing other human beings already across the world.

And then afterwards their seems to be an "ohh crap he really was going to do it" type hysteria with how Abraham was told his descendants would be as numerous as the star's. Almost like the Creator was thinking "grrr still much more work to do".

Yes.

The spiritual "implication" as you put it is not only in the future but also, I believe, in the present. Oh yes very much so. Should America seek redemption? lol. More like "should have" a long time ago. In my opinion it is too late for America, she has turned her backs on the things of the Lord. She is not redeemed, it is a sin now, it was a sin in the past, and I am not a moral relativist. I will give you a hint as to what I personally believe is in store for poor old America without daring to second-guess the Lord: I belive that there will come a day when America the Great is no more, and by that point her once-shining name will be so besmerched and corrupted that only Merchants unable to unload their cargo-containers of poison plastic trash will weep for Her!

It breaks my heart. Truly.

Instead of looking at this from a Christian viewpoint try looking at this from a global spiritual viewpoint.

Ask yourself the following ;

"If God were here today would they approve of slavery? and the resounding answer would be no as slavery pits one group of his children underfoot of another which goes against global spiritual equality.

A few bible verses on slavery:

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)
