Doomsday bunkers for under $10,000!

money.cnn.com

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- A company that sells luxury doomsday shelters is branching out with a new "economy class" bunker that costs $9,950.

Vivos is building the cheaper facility to accommodate the growing number of people worried about "life-extinction events" such as super volcanoes and asteroids but can't afford to shell out $35,000 for the fancier model.

I can't figure out if this is funny or not, maybe it's both.

"All told, Vivos has more than 10,000 "members" in its apocalypse community -- some of whom have merely "applied" for spots in the bunkers and others who have plunked down refundable $5,000 deposits"

I guess it goes to show there are a lot of worried people out there. 10,000 were worried enough to actually buy this product.

Here's to hoping it doesn't really ever get that bad, where one of these is needed!

Anyone ever thought about just purchasing a used shipping container, maybe burying it and outfitting it with rooms? I've seen 40' footers for around 2-3 thousand dollars (some may be a little more). They are all steel construction and as big as some mobile homes. Some are even hermetically sealed (air/water tight).

Just a thought.

If these people actually are allowed in (the economy class) they will be working the fields and providing security when they open the doors. Cooking, cleaning, and providing menial labor. Possibly at gunpoint. But they’ll be survivors.

Heck, there is a thriving market making homes out them nowadays.

Burying one could be problematic though as they rust through in a relatively short time.

I don't think it will matter in the end. That fireball the size of earth they keep showing is the new baby earth and that implies this one moves out.

They're junk and in the event of a cataclysm you will die

a real shelter will cost you upwards of $100,000 or more and will withstand virtually anything outside of a direct nuclear strike or an asteroid strike

If I was going to buy one of these, I would go for the $35,000 luxury one.

If I'm going to go apocalyptic, I'm gonna do it in style.

Amen, to that. Why don't they just bury themselves in the ground ? We can tie a nice bell 'round their wrists to hear them!

How long you planning on being under the ground for? When it's over I plan to dig out.
