John Kerry, Michael Moore and the rest of the Democratic party have been critical of George Bush's decision to wait seven minutes after being told of the second plane hitting the World Trade Centers. His preference to stay in a Florida kindergarten class as opposed to rushing out to attend to the tragedy of the terrorists attacks was lauded at first as sign of calm under pressure, but has now become a point of contention with the presidential race heating up.

www.newsmax.com
Here's what the Massachusetts Democrat said July 8 when Larry King asked where he was on 9/11, according to CNN's own transcript:

'Nobody Could Think'

"I was in the Capitol. We'd just had a meeting - we'd just come into a leadership meeting in Tom Daschle's office, looking out at the Capitol. And as I came in, Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think, and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon. And then word came from the White House, they were evacuating, and we were to evacuate, and so we immediately began the evacuation."

How appropriate that Kerry lumps himself in with fellow leftist do-nothing non-thinkers such as Boxer, Daschle and Reid.

Thanks to the several readers today who sent us this fascinating bit from Blog for Bush: "the second plane hit the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m., and the plane hit the Pentagon at 9:43 a.m. By Kerry's own words, he and his fellow senators sat there for forty minutes, realizing 'nobody could think.'"

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

This only the tip of the iceberg, as the both sides continue to dredge up minutiae of past actions the political mudslinging will continue. The DNC will no doubt focus on 9/11, the U.S. troop deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Presidents Bush's Air National Guard service record. The RNC will focus on Senator John Kerry's indecisive nature, Viet Nam service (which up until recently was thought to be an asset) and his lack luster Senate service.

Great stuff!

But remember:

- Kerry wasn't CINC yet on 9/11
- Bush didn't leave the school for closer to a half hour after the 2nd plane hit
- The "thinkers" on that Bush cheerleading blog assume that Kerry et al were engaged in the same 'deer in the headlights' indecision as Bush; proof? We've seen the proof on Bush.

WOW!!! I'm in such shock at the hypocracy...
I won't be able to think for about 40 minutes.

Seriously ... he's a freak'n hypocrit.
G.W. did the right thing. He didn't panic.
He didn't get the children upset. He
calmly waited for the end of the story
to be read. He said a few words and
left early.

But for Kerry to attack G.W. for doing the
right thing ... my God ... I can't stand the
idiot. Kerry himself didn't know what
to do.

Thanks for the GREAT posting! I'll be
sending this around!

I think the quote has been spun somewhat. He doesn't say he saw the second plane hit live, he just says he saw it hit. The footage was played over and over after the plane actually hit, so the 45 minute claim may be inaccurate.

Secondly, Kerry was, like the rest of us, an observer to the events. The words "couldn't think" could equally apply to their inability to concentrate fully on whatever mundane business they had planned, which is not unreasonable.

It wasn't his job or his responsibility to act upon the event. The most sensible thing he could have done was what he did, namely watch the news and see what's going on.

Bush on the other hand WAS supposed to do more than sit in a classroom with a stunned look on his face. For seven minutes.

I found it interesting that John Kerry on "Larry King Live: said he and the other senators just sat around and just couldn't think for 40 minutes after the 9-11 attack.

And yet, he just said in yesterday's TV appearance that if HE had been PRESIDENT, he wouldn't have finished the reading to the elementary school students in Florida, that he'd have immediately jumped up and run to take care of things - thinking clearly.

How is it, that as SENATOR, he and his colleagues couldn't move or think for 40 minutes. But we are now to believe that with John Kerry as PRESIDENT, he would've been up and thinking clearly immediately.

This presidential race is ridiculous. These people must think we are all idiots. Hmm...maybe we are. We elect people like him to the Senate.

Bush as President had a duty to act swiftly, not sit in a classroom listening to kids read about a goat What exactly did you expect Kerry to do?

Bush sat there and watching the video you can almost see and hear the few gears in his head grinding thinking,

"What do I do, someone come tell me what to do! Aww, nice story about a goat, think I'll eat lamb tonight...oh yeah, plane, WTC...I should do something, maybe..."

Bush did not panic, he did not go hysterical. 9 minutes would not have changed anything. He was shocked, when it happend I was out of sync for about 10 minutes and coulkd'nt believe what was going on. Who the hell reall expected a terrorist attack that large? Bush did not cause a scene. What was 9 minutes going to really do? Give the man some time to abosrb the scenario.

Wow! What an intellegent post! What insight. I bet you are right on there. Bush just sat there thinking about what a neat story was being read. Look, I know you were being sarcastic (at least I hope you are) but, what was he supposed to do? Seriously tell me? Was he suppose to run out the door and hop into his fighter jet and personally escort the hijacked jets down himself? Better yet he could hop in his jet and just shoot em down. Come on buddy, didn't you read the sign when you joined this place"

DENY IGNORANCE!

The 9 minutes you talk about ( I happen to think it was longer before Bush acted in any way) is an awful long time when the country is under attack.

Those 9 minutes may have been enough for bush to have given the order for scrambling air force jets to intercept the plane that hit the pentagon.

From the "Larry King Show" transcript
KING: Where were you?

KERRY: I was in the Capitol. We'd just had a meeting -- we'd just come into a leadership meeting in Tom Daschle's office, looking out at the Capitol. And as I came in, Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And then word came from the White House, they were evacuating, and we were to evacuate, and so we immediately began the evacuation.

HEINZ KERRY: You walked out with John McCain, didn't you?

KERRY: Yes.

From CNN's Chronology of 9/11
September 11: Chronology of terror
September 12, 2001 Posted: 12:27 PM EDT (1627 GMT)

8:45 a.m. (all times are EDT): A hijacked passenger jet, American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, Massachusetts, crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center, tearing a gaping hole in the building and setting it afire.

Plane hits WTC.
9:03 a.m.: A second hijacked airliner, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston, crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Center and explodes. Both buildings are burning.

9:17 a.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration shuts down all New York City area airports.

9:21 a.m.: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey orders all bridges and tunnels in the New York area closed.

9:30 a.m.: President Bush, speaking in Sarasota, Florida, says the country has suffered an "apparent terrorist attack."

9:40 a.m.: The FAA halts all flight operations at U.S. airports, the first time in U.S. history that air traffic nationwide has been halted.

9:43 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, sending up a huge plume of smoke. Evacuation begins immediately.

9:45 a.m.: The White House evacuates.

Not replays over, and over again... BOOM! Not the most articulate description but John hadn't been scripted for this. John Kerry was not the Commander in Chief, he was a shocked and confused man under the duress of direct attack, as were the others present in New York, and Washington. The arm chair (and frankly disingenuous remarks that have been recently made as to what he WOULD have done) quarterbacking of John Kerry is what is so reprehensible (although not as reprehensible as his return to New York and Washington on 9/12 to film an editable version of what he WOULD have done if he WOULD have been President on that fateful day). This ploy to try and capitalize on Michael Moore's success as a propagandist may have truly backfired, but then again Michael and John are "frauds of a feather".

Only 10 minutes? You did MUCH better than I did. I watched the
second plane hit LIVE on TV. I was in shock. I was shaking. I
watched the other two planes come down. It was etherial, unreal.

I had been in the Army 15 years ago, and I was trained for these
kinds of things, but when it actually happened ... I was stunned.
My daughter wanted to watch Blues Clues, which wasn't on.
I kept trying to think straight, but it just wasn't there. What was
happening COULDN'T BE HAPPENING. It was unreal.

It took AT LEAST two months for what had happened to sink in
that it was real.

???????????
If that was directed at me, well ya got me
I have no idea what that meant. I thought I was sticking to the issue by asking you what Bush was supposed to do?

And what does you being a Canadian have to do with anything? I am not a Bush supporter either, but I am openminded enough to not fall into this ignorant trap.

Flyers- What happend was that we first heard that two planes hit the towers, and that the first one may have been an accident. Then when the tv was on I could'nt get my face off of it, I was there staring for 10 minutes, maybe more. I watched the replay of it, we just heard it. I did see live the towers collapse, which got me for another 10 minutes, and then I was out for God knows how long when the one building collapsed as the reporter for Fox was talking to a woman, and she was screaming "Hide your baby, hide your baby" and they were scrambling. It was a very tough and sad day. For that whole week I thought it was a bad dream and I wish it was. I was out of it until we went into Afghanistan. Even typing it and remembering it, is getting me out of reality.

But back to the matter, 9 minutes, what was Bush going to do? What was lost? Nothing, he could'nt stop it, he could'nt do anything but watch.

Did Kerry, being a senator, have all of that info, like, terrorists, specifically bin laden, planning to hijack a plane and fly it into a large, as yet undetermined building? Sometime around the month of September? Wouldn't the White House have a plan ready, just in case, in advance?

What kind of plan could have been in place? "What to do in case of a quadruple Boeing hijacking with intents of crashing into National Landmarks"? Bottom line is, there was nothing Bush or Kerry could do at the immediate time except to watch the tragedy with the rest of the world. 9 minutes or 90 minutes, it's all frivilous arguing.

Nice try at what? And yes I checked the links, and don't offer anything to counter my argument. The article, and your interpretation, is spin.

Come on Mirthful, you're not even making sense. No replays? then what did I and about a billion other viewers see constantly on the television after the second plane hit?

And then you go on to say armchair remarks about what Kerry would have done are reprehensible, when you post is made up of nothing BUT armchair remarks about what he would or wouldn't have done? How very fair minded of you.

Food for thought here gang...

MSNBC interviewed Mrs. Kerry and asked her about the President's actions on that day.

Teresa Heinz Kerry: I think the President behaved correctly in terms of being quiet amidst stunning news like that. I mean, a classroom of kids what can you do? It takes you a couple of minutes to digest what youve just heard.
