What They’re Looking For Inside Osama’s Thumb Drives

U.S. forces picked up more than a hundred thumb drives, hard drives, computers, and discs from Osama bin Laden’s compound. Now that the gear is in the hands of American intelligence, what are they looking for? Some of the more pressing questions that are likely being asked right now:

What was he reading or watching? Bin Laden inevitably got information from the outside world. There is a fair chance that some of that material came in via CDs, DVDs, or thumb drives. This gives us some insight into what his cohorts were writing to him, and what issues he was interested in, etc. USB sticks are particularly useful, since a PC will record the serial number of a thumb drive in its registry. Pictures taken with a digital camera will contain data that can indicate where they were taken and when. We may be able to correlate where certain documents or files came from or who created them, giving further insight into the inner-workings of the organization.

Yes, what exactly was Bin Laden reading? From reports he didn't have internet access, but considering how the story is changing from one minute to the next, the big shocker will be when they announce that Bin Laden frequented a site called "Above Top Secret."

Maybe he was a member or maybe he was just a lurker...

I'm pretty sure he was the person making those silly earthquake prediction threads, to get loads of flags and stars

Grrrr...stupid Bin Laden troll.

Seriously though, it will be interesting to discover what exactly comes to light in the following months...

I'm guessing after the next big false flag attack, they'll find the blueprints to this "attack" on his computer hard drive.

I thought the scripture banned Christians from looking at porn?

All,

They are looking for anything like bank accounts, personal pin numbers, ip access ports, blueprints, manifestos.

All,

They are looking for anything like bank accounts, personal pin numbers, ip access ports, blueprints, manifestos, internet browser history, cookies, encrypted files, coded communications, outposts lists, employee files/list, partner groups, financial backers, internet search history, travel schedules, flight information, maps of potential targets, maps of airports and transit centres, videos of potential targets, phone numbers, email addresses, chat logs, phone call logs, training camp facilities, recruitment outposts and anything else you would think a terrorist organization would use or need.

Added in quote!

Your kidding right?

Naive will get you killed in this world. What they are looking for is called "intelligence", information that will help them gain an edge over the enemy.

Much like how we cracked the enigma encoder the Germans had in WWII, they thought they had a secured encryption, but we were listening.

eh...

Was your post directed at me?

You either don't have a sense of humour, or my post didn't come across very well.

Also, I'm not sure where you're from, but if you're American, well sorry to break it to you but it was the British who cracked the Enigma code NOT the Americans.

Sorry to break to both of you, but it was 3 Polish mathematicians that broke enigma Cipher, long before WW2 Began. Not being petty, but credit should be given where due. The Polish Cipher bureau broke the German system in the early 1930's.

Actually yes, you are quite correct!

My apologies.

I'd forgotten that, in my rush to reply.

Yeah, old Bin Dead-long has been sitting there in his "mansion" all these years plotting and scheming, day in, day out, and keeping all the data on his laptop and assorted drives.

You don't fight a high tech enemy using their playbook, you go as low tech as possible to remain invisible to them, and I am sure every "terrorist" mastermind knows this.

Still, I'm sure they'll find all sorts of stuff on there that will require a ramping up of security measures back in the homeland. TSA groping everyone or frying them with scanners at every port, train station and shopping mall, arrests of mentally challenged individuals set up by FBI for arrest to be waved at everyone as a terrorist threat etc. The beast needs feeding and the population still need to be controlled.

if were looking for 'intelligence' to gain a threshold over the enemy, maybe we should start 'decoding' what some of these politicians are saying
