This just came across my email, wanted to get the word out to my friends and family..

Possible New Gang Tactics

As you all know, a member of our First American family (the manager of our office in Driggs) has been missing since March 2nd when he disappeared while traveling from Driggs to Boise to attend the same meeting that I attended. The last time he was sited was in Carey Idaho purchasing gas for his car.Coincidentally, two weeks later a married couple traveling from Canada to Las Vegas to attend a business function disappeared after stopping to get gas in Oregon.

Although fowl play has not been published at this point in either case, I'm sure it has not been over ruled either. I know Grant was the kind of person that would stop to help anyone. He was just a hippy at heart and like his wife said "Grant never met a stranger".

I'm telling you this because it is a reality and I would like you to please read the below information and take it to heart. Maybe it's not new to you and you have read it before but please read it again and recognize that we need to be careful even in small towns. It's sad that the world has become a place where we no longer feel safe to help a stranger alongside the road, but at least now we live in a world of cell phones and we can always call to alert the police of someone in need, and by doing that we are helping them.

Please read below.

MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL
STATE OF MISSISSIPPI , JACKSON , MS ...

SITUATION...
While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Canton PD and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....

"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women) to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.

"There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police Department where gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.

"Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person (woman) will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!!! DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON 'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.

"IF Y OU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WIND SHIELD, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK THE CAR, DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOME MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%, AND YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.

THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

Please talk to your loved ones about this.

This is a new tactic used. Please be safe.

WARNING # 2 Dial 112 (This applies to ALL 50 states~!)

It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly dialed 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind.. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe place.

112 started out as the Eurpean version of the US 911. However, with the current level of mobile technology and international roaming, it has been expanded to become the base emergency quick dial for mobile technology in the world. In the US, 112 redirects calls to 911. In Australia, it redirects calls to 000. So on and so forth for each country's own unique emergency services number. So, rather than have to learn country specific emergency numbers, all a person with a modern cell phone needs to know is 112.

Ok, well I live in Jackson, MS and I work near Canton, MS...so, I didnt reply to the topic because thats bogus anyway. However, the threat is real around the nation to the point that police districts do in fact warn against pulling over in secluded areas when you cannot rightfully identify the vehicle behind you as a police car.

This is an Ask a Cop video concerning what to do in this situation.

You hear it on the news occasionally - someone is driving alone at night on a deserted stretch of road when they see a blue light behind them. Someone with a light and/or a siren pulls them over. The driver is then robbed, car-jacked, mugged, or even killed. Is this just an urban legend or could it happen to you?

E-How

And there are several state and metro links to FAQs from police districts telling this very same warning.

Basically, if you are in a secluded or dark area, DO NOT just pull over for blue lights behind you. First, make sure that you recognize the vehicle as a police vehicle. Are you breaking, or have you just broken, a law?

If you are sure you havent broken the law and you cannot with all certainty know that a police vehicle is behind you, dial your emergency number (112, 911, 000, etc) and start looking for a safe, well lit, populated area to stop. Signal your intent with vehicle signal lights and motion hand jestures. Let the potential officer behind you know that you intend to cooperate. They will follow you. If you really are being paced by a ligitimate police officer, you will know in short time that they are for real, because they will most likely call ahead for escort assistance, stop assistance or otherwise. Also, your emergency operator will confirm your vehicle has been identified by an officer and let you know that you are in fact being pursued by a legitimate unmarked vehicle.

This is not a Mississippi warning, this is a nationwide warning. As far as I can tell, every state, county and city in the US allows for this under these circumstances.

I am in a smal town in Oklahoma and at my grandma's senior center they gave out a paper warning about the same thing.

Five youths with gang tatoos and eggs were found shot to death on the side of a lonely rural road. Although the victims were armed no signs of struggle were found. This shooting was appently done by a proffesional as no clues were found and do to the youths background is no doubt gang related, police officials stated.

Good information I did not know that about eggs.

I have been laughed at and made fun of for not opening my door to Jehovah's Witnesses, especially ones that watch me walk to my door then knock for 10 minutes since they know I'm there. But that's a whole different bag of cookies...

I agree that this is good advice. Hoax or not, I have been told since I was a little girl that if someone in a uniform approaches me, I am allowed to ask them for a close view of their badge. I have also been told of being able to call 9-1-1 (USA) and they somehow check if there is someone dispatched to watch a certain vehicle/certain area. This is because it's unfortunately a very real threat. Nowadays, unmarked cars are actually pretty obvious...they have 20 antennas and their license plates are required to end in "PD" (at least in OK they are)

I have also been told that when walking through a parking garage, day or night, in this day of cell phones it should always be known to someone else that you are entering/exiting a garage. There are too many corners and hidey holes, and there are some cases where "security" will offer you a ride to ground level, however they are not security at all. It's important to let people know where you are regardless, but in cases like these, sometimes paranoia can save you trouble!

Stephen King has a fairly recent book out that has a short story related to something like this...I could barely read it...I guess it made me squirm because I'm a girl and it was just a little too realistic for me.

My question is how can someone reasonably determine if the car behind them with flashing lights is unmarked or not?

I have perfect vision and there is no way I would be able to make out any decals or logos on a car behind me at night time, especially while focusing on the road in front.

Seems like a tough situation to be in if your a single female traveling at night.

Once again a keyboard warrior with too much time hoaxing people gullible enough to think this is real or people who know its a hoax and claim it as wise advice. This has been going on since email was invented.

This only feeds the world governments to enslave us even more. Strike fear into the hearts of there citizens and increase the size of the nanny state to bleed us all for more tax dollars under the pretence that they are protecting us. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if a Government worker designed the email in the first place.

Please check snopes.com before posting this crap again.

I've seen very similar tactics in the outback of Australia, mainly Western Australia. When i was over visiting my Aunty and driving between Perth and Port Headland there were similar tactics used by Aboriginals (indigenous Australians). In this case many people had been driving at night or through the day and either hit something or saw a body laying on the road. They would stop to get out and see if everything was ok only to be ambushed and in some cases killed not only for their belongings but because many indigenous Australian's have a strong hatred for settlers or immigrants.

Even the police would say to not stop and continue on to the next town / police station and advise them of what had happened.

I'm not understanding the reasoning here. Even if the event that is being referenced here, did not specifically happen, this is still something to keep in mind. Someone, somewhere, came up with this original idea. If someone was able to think of this idea, then someone could actually try to use this tactic. Whether or not, this actually has any connection to any gangs, is irrelevant.

There are many people that live on this rock, some of those people are really ^*$#& in the head. Obviously, this idea has gotten around the internet. So it is probable, that some of these &^$* up people, may have read this and thought it sounds like a dam good plan. So regardless, if the actual comment did not originally come from an official police station, it is still a good idea to keep in mind just in case anyone ever does run into a similar situation.

in Australia 112 works as well... they say that if you are trying to dial 000 and have no service or the security is activated making your phone useless to dial 112 instead, it allows your phone to jump to and from any network tower to secure the emergency call
