Whatever. Mark my words, when the order comes down to restrict firearms ownership in the US, it will be a right wing candidate in office.

They have been using this technique for a while now. Get the president you dont suspect of trying to screw you on an issue to screw you on an issue. Like Obama allowing people to stay in jail for life without trial, or Clinton ramming through NAFTA. It was during Dubyas presidency that the military was seizing weapons from citizens in Louisiana, remember.

Many of them are infact banned.

Those imported ones don't legally fall under the ATFs definition of tactical shotguns.

They have altered features that allow them to be classifed as sporting shotguns.

What's next a ban on the Ruger 10/22? Shotguns are one of the most versatile weapons that you can own. From tactical to upland to deer and turkey a shotgun can't be beat. That's why the want to come after them. They want the every man's weapon.

Apparently the move is to do an interpretation of the existing laws to do this. The ATF evidently did a study and decided they could do it - or at least try.

A report just released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), “Study on the Importability of Certain Shotguns,” has proposed that, “military shotguns, or shotguns with common military features that are unsuitable for traditional shotgun sports” be prohibited from importation.

Basically it looks like they are wanting to ban the tactical or military / police style shotguns.

PS - Guys - please take a look at the last picture in the ATF's report above. To me that looks more like a heavily mod'ed standard pump shotgun - and not an "off the shelf" type gun. Am I right or wrong?

In a number of states the banned shotguns have a legal version that can be sold legally.
then all you have to do is go to a gun show and buy the parts to convert it back to the banned version

In many cases the ban is on the sale of the banned gun. Not the ownership.

It's not exactly a legal site, but it is a simplified explanation.

If you have a semi-auto "assault weapon" which does infact include shotguns.. More parts must be made in america than can be made over seas.

Hence International Assault Weapons are banned.

The way they do it, oftenly is get the bare bones over sea then fit them with american made parts here upon importation.

Or they make the gun in such a fashion that it doesn't need to fit the criteria and can be called a sporting rifle/shotgun.

I saw a SPAS-12 in cabella's once. I picked it up and held it.
Man I wished I had 900 dollars right then.. It was one of the more incredibly well feeling guns I've held.. the only one coming close being a Colt AR.

the erosion of gun rights in this country will never end and it is going to get worse.

back in the day i could open the sears catalog or the service merchandise catalog and order a no frill rifle or shotgun hell my local walmart doesn't even carry guns anymore.

the majority of americans in this country do not even know where to even go buy one which is sad and pathetic.
