A nationwide general labor strike has been called on Wednesday by the country's two largest umbrella labor federations GSEE and ADEDY, representing the private and public sector respectively, while two protest demonstrations will be held in downtown Athens that same day, at the Pedion tou Areos Park and in Omonia Square.

I am surprised I haven't seen anyone else posting about this. More protests, much like the ones in the usa, over budget battles and the government. It seems that protests are starting everywhere, even if it is not middle east related. What is going on in this world, and what is in store for the remainder of this year?

It also looks like these protests were getting out of hand, which seems to have turned into a full blown riot.

Sorry, but the protests in Greece have nothing to do with the protests in the Middle East or North Africa.

This saga has been going on for three years now, are you telling me this is the first you're hearing of it?

Greece may not be nothing new.

However, its not every day that police are getting burned to death with molotov cocktails.

Deny ignorance by all means.

But there weren't "riots". There was a single riot. And it was under control pretty quickly.

There was a general strike/protest, which was peaceful.
A handful of people who continually show up and cause trouble, showed up again, and caused trouble.

A policeman was not burnt to death.
And just because the media decided to use that incident to sensationalize the event doesn't mean it's the first time a riot cop has been caught up in a molotov.


Sorry, but this is just more media sensationalism at it's finest.

The main topic covered by the media should have been the general strike, eg why, who, when, where, pros, cons, etc.
Instead the focus was AGAIN on the minority who riot. And by minority, not even 0.001% of the population is represented in that minority. And to make matters even more confusing for foreigners reading about the events, they mix usage of the general strike and riot in the same articles, paragraphs and sentences to make it appear as if the 30,000 people who went on a general strike were all rioting, when it wasn't even a couple of hundred who rioted.
