Brooklyn College Student Committed to Mental Institution After Hidden Camera Complaint

Your housing situation can be one of the most stressful aspects of the whole college experience. Especially if your roommates are writing nasty things about you on the Internet and your landlord has planted a hidden camera in your bedroom. Such was the situation for Chinemerem Eze, a Nigerian student at Brooklyn College, in December 2008, according to a lawsuit she’s filed in New York Supreme Court.

You have to be totally crazy to think there are hidden cameras installed all over the place just to watch YOU, right? I mean, who are YOU to think anyone wants to watch YOU?

That was the reaction of campus security, when this college student complained about a camera that she believed was installed in her bedroom. They called the college psychologist, and the psychologist called for an ambulance. She was placed in the local hospital's psych ward for 2 weeks ... against her will.

Upon her release, she found the camera, in the vent of her bedroom. She's suing the crap out of the college, the psychologist; she already settled with the hospital.

Q: How is this not kidnapping?
A: Because Brooklyn College is managed by the government. So is the hospital she was taken to -- Kings County Hospital.

While not knowing the law in NY, isn't it illegal for a landlord to install a hidden camera in a tenant's house?

I'd sue the crap out of the landlord, too.

Typical over-reaction. Really all it would have taken was someone to go up to the room take a look around, find if there were or weren't any cameras. If there weren't, forget about it all and if there were, find out who put them there and as to what purpose. Why these sorts of things happen is beyond comprehension really.

Back in my college days the guys would say if you wanted to get a girl naked the surest way was to get her stoned. It's extremely inconsiderate to force your environment onto someone else that may not share your outlook. Maybe she was a math major or president of the chess club, thank god she found some fresh air for a couple weeks.

I agree with you 100%, people need to use more common sense.

Mental institutions are a tool by the government, to maintain the status quo. You see, they practically starve you of oxygen, and all it takes is about 4-5 weeks till your permanently damaged (less neurotransmitters, awful memory, and less depth to awareness).

The place is full of corrupt doctors as well, people willing to cheat to keep you there just because your interesting.
