Hei folks..

This image was taken by me couple of days ago and I still can’t figure it out what it was. The whole show lasted for about 20 minutes temperature was below -25 C and time was around 22:00 (exif available).

Location : Norway/Drammen 70 km south west of Oslo

i12.photobucket.com...

I was out to capture some images of the moon it was pretty clear sky, some smal local fogs, not a single clouds and suddenly this streak of light appeared in front on my lens as you see in image , then it gradually expand its width and then disappeared.

I ruled out the phenomena as northern lights, it had constant orange/yellowish colour and if I judge correctly it had a length of several kilometres (starts from nowhere and end nowhere), there were no mention of this in local newspaper seems no one even noticed it!

Would be greatly appreciated if someone gives a decent explanation..!

Thanks

Mods please feel free to move the topic in appropriate forum since I had no idea where to put it.

There are some wonderful effects that can be created by the sun (& moon).

It's possible what you saw and captured was a "sun dog" or similar "pillar" type effect.

Natural but amazing imo.

I have just seen some photos like that. I was trying to look for the website but I can't find it yet. It was in Norwegian.

Thanks guys for the valuable info, at least I now know that my mind and eyes + my gadgets didn’t play tricks on me!

I can relax now, my mind was on overdrive since past couple of days.

Thank you all
