Federal agents raid military contractor, EOD Technology, in Lenoir City

Federal agents raided EOD Technology's headquarters this morning and executed a search warrant on the government contractor that is working for the U.S. military in Afghanistan.

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the federal Department of Homeland Security, assisted by Lenoir City police, were seen escorting company employees to their cars this morning.

EOD Tecnhology Inc. , which is basically another Blackwater type security firm operating in Iraq and Afghanistan... getting raided? Really?

Why do I have a feeling more information will be lost in the shuffle than will actually come to light.

This is not surprising after previous lawsuits of widespread misconduct by employees and company officials.

Prior allegations included - Bruce Bowland, former EODT finance director, and EODT President Matt Kaye paid cash to Iraqi Ministry of Finance officials to settle EODT's tax liability. The suit says that in 2006 EODT paid $130,000 to its Iraqi subcontractor, Al Hurea, when EODT's tax liability was more than $1 million. Al Hurea officials subsequently paid Iraqi officials an "unknown amount."

In 2008, the suit says, company officials used the same method to funnel cash to Iraqi officials to obtain approval of EODT's license to provide security services in Iraq and to delay approval of a security license for EODT's largest competitor.

In one case, the government found EOD's background checks didn't find that the people it hired had previously given sensitive information to the Taliban. By contacting previous employers, the government was able to find out employees of EOD were actually fired from old jobs for the security breaches, then hired by EOD.

A Nashville public relations firm hired by EOD could not answer specific questions Wednesday but did offer a statement. In it, they said the contract with the United States government required they hire Afghan workers. Additionally, the US Military knew who was on EOD's payroll and had no problems with it.

This doesn't look good for the US military either.
